PURPOSE
THIS PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT WILL ADDRESS
THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL
HEALTH FOR EDUCATORS. THE
SUMMER IS JUST ABOUT OVER
AND WE ARE UP FOR A YEAR

COVID-19.IT IS VERY COMMON
FOR TEACHERS TO FEEL
STRESSED FROM WORK AND
PERSONAL STRESSORS SO THIS
TRAINING WILL TEACH
EDUCATORS HOW TO FIRST
IDENTIFY THEIR
STRESSORS/TRIGGERS AND
THEIR NATURAL RESPONSE TO
This training is apart of the Emotional THEM. WE WILL THEN DISCUSS

Goal  
Teachers will be able to evaluate their mental health and employ Self-care strategies to cope and maintain their
overall wellbeing.
Objectives
Students will be able to define Stress.
Students will be able to Identify Personal stressors/triggers and their natural responses to them.
Students will be able to define Self Care and the importance of it.
Students will be able to create Self Care strategies for themselves.

Pre- Survey Questionnaire : Teachers will take a survey
via SurveyMonkey at the beginning of the training to
assess their knowledge of the subject of Selfcare.
Post Survey Questionnaire: Teachers will complete the
ASSESSMENT
same survey and they will share 2 Self care practices via
Padlet that they are planning to try.
Prior to arriving to the training, the teachers receive the link via to
complete the Pre- Assessment Questionnaire.
Welcome audience and introduce myself, allow teachers to complete the
Pre-survey questionnaire. The link will be on each table along with a
QR code. While they’re completing the questionnaire, I will provide a
brief overview of The Emotional Backpack Project.
Activity #1
Participants will find 1 Image, graphic, animation, video, song or
text that expresses them when they are feeling their best and another for
OPENING when they are feeling the complete opposite.
Provides personal example for Participants to see and hear.
Provide 5 minutes to complete (timer is a 5-minute song selected by a

With a shoulder partner share your representation and discuss the what

-Discuss the causes of good and bad stress using Pictures to show both. DURING THE

LESSON
Participants will discuss the impact of stress with a shoulder partner for 2 minutes
and all participants to share.
-We will discuss what self care is and is not by using an infographic.
-Allow participants to share via Padlet why it is difficult for educators to take care of
themselves and share examples.
-Provide examples of Basic self care using graphics of each recommendation.
-Share Personal Self Care Strategies that have worked for me as an educator
-Participants will complete Post- Survey Questionnaire Via
Survey Monkey and submit 2 Self care Practices that they plan
CLOSING to implement via Padelet.
-Closing Remarks and open floor up for questions or comments

REFLECTIONS
I Planned this lesson with learners' strengths, weakness and barriers in
mind. UDL provides so many options that even though I felt like I
could’ve done more, I still managed to meet the needs of my audience.
I struggled with this course because I was so overwhelmed with trying
to make sure I included every check point and guideline. I’ve decided
to take things slowly and not put so much pressure on myself to
include every check point.

UDL is very beneficial to the learning environment for students and


adults because it removes the one size fits all mindset which isn’t our
reality.
