1. History and General Description

Historical Background:

Long time ago there were two families living in Cabangan who had misunderstandings and
conflicts. they both had a farm at the foot of Mt. Mayon. One of them had a beautiful daughter
named Juliana who was known as "Oling". The other had also a son named Mariano who was
called "Anong". They fell in love with each other despite of the conflicts and misunderstandings
that their parents have had until they decided to marry each other. But because their parents
were against their relationship, they eloped and disappeared for along time. They stayed at
their farm at the foot of Mt. Mayon and when it erupted, the parents of the couples shouted
"Anong - Oling". . .. . "Anong - Oling" for them to be saved. But they were buried by the lava.
Then the place was called “Anongling",but as time passed by it became Anoling.

3.1.2 Agriculture

Barangay Anoling is known as one of the barangays that produce a lot of agricultural products
in the town of Camalig. Brgy. Anoling has rich and healthy soil because every time there is an
ash fall a lot goes to Anoling which becomes fertilizers in the soil as time goes on. Here are
some of the agricultural products of the barangay Anoling:

 coconut
 vegetables (sili, stringbeans, ampalaya, etc.)
 copra
 fruits
 rice

3.3 Forestry

The northern part of Brgy. Anoling is a vast forest so almost half of Purok 7 is also a forest. Here
are some of the livelihoods of the people of Purok 7.

 Logging (pagtotroso)
 Farming (pagsasaka)
 Livestock farming (pag aalaga ng mga hayop)
 Pag uuling

3.4 Trade Industry and Tourism

Brgy. Anoling is one of the barangays near the Mayon volcano. Every time it rains in the
volcano, floods go down into the rivers of Anoling and other barangay. Along with the flood are
sands and gravel. And after the flood, a lot of sand and gravel was left, the local government
and citizens noticed it and because of that they decided to start a small quarry. Quarrying is one
of the livelihoods of some people in barangay Anoling, this is also the reason why Anoling is one
of the barangays that supply sand and gravel in many hardwares in Camalig.

8. Environment
8.1 Geo/Meteorological Hazards

Barangay Anoling is located within 6 kilometers permanent danger zone of the Mayon Volcano,
so the primary problem or hazard in the barangay is when the Mayon Volcano is erupting aside
from that Brgy. Anoling is also prone to flood.

 The eruption of the volcano is one of the main problem in our barangay. In the eruption
of Mayon, the first affected area in our barangay was Purok 7, based on the data I
gathered, Purok 7 is 3 or 4 kilometers away from the danger zone. Volcanic eruptions
can damage crops and people's property and even cause the death of animals due to
sulfur and ash.
 Flooding, maybe in others, flood is caused by overflowing water in the stream or river
but in our barangay it is different. Even if sometimes it does not rain in our barangay,
there is still a flood because of the water comming from the volcano, especially if it rains
on the top of Mayon and when it rains in the volcano the water goes down towards our
barangay. And when it rains in our barangay, the flood gets stronger in fact some
residents have already died and swept away by the flood.
