NSTP Orientation

By: Dean Amelia Gonzales

What are the things that you have learned in the orientation?

These are the things that I learned in the orientation:

 NSTP Program is actually giving service to the community. It is also a path to shape the
personality of every student here in the Philippines, especially the Bicol University
College of Engineering (BUCENG).
 The BUEÑOs should follow the values; leadership, character, scholarship and service.
 Leadership does not defined that you should always be ahead of everything but it is
defined of being a good leader with a good governance and who has a desire to
encourage its companions to do good thing for others.
 Character, to shape our personalities and to prepare us for the possibility of being
broken or scattered into pieces.
 The four (4) values of the Bicol University want us to have a good character not just for
ourselves but for others.
 Wealth is not just about money, but it can be defined in so many ways, just like being
wealthy because of being good to others; and/or having a strong family ties.
 Scholarship does not matter if you are valedictorian, salutatorian or honoree but it is
what builds our dignity as a person.
 Community extension service is having a scholarly strategic plan to improve one's
situation while voluntarism is doing actions voluntarily.
 Based on the Constitution the obligation of the parents in terms of education lies in
primary and secondary education only thus it's not require for the parents to send their
children to college but in our country it become a tradition that our parents it
responsible for sending us to college because they believe that success comes from
education.
 What really sticks in my mind is don't immediately enter into a relationship because the
right time for that will come, and it might just be a reason for you to lose focus on
studies.
NSTP Orientation

By: Engr. Rogie Mar Bolon and Ms. Aiza Sumpay

Here are my insights that I get from the orientation:

 That National Service Training Program (NSTP) or also known as RA 9163 is a mandatory
training that every university or colleges should implement.
 The NSTP is a program aimed and enhance the civic consciousness and defense
preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while
undergoing training in any of its program components.
 A student may choose in any of the three categories of the NSTP which are the; Reserve
Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and the Literacy
Training Service (LTS).
 Graduates of the CWTS and LTS components of the NSTP shall belong to the National
Service Reserve Corps (NSRC) and could be tapped by the State for literacy and civic
welfare activities, especially in times of calamities while graduates of the ROTC program
shall form part of the Citizen Armed Force.
 Students, male and female of any baccalaureate degree course or at least two (2) year
technical vocational courses in public and private educational institutions shall be
required to complete one (1) of the NSTP components are requisite for graduation.
 The primary objective of the NSTP law is to promote the role of the youth in nation-
building. As such, it aims to encourage the youth to become civic and/or military leaders
and volunteers whom could be called upon by the nation in cases their services are
needed.
 CWTS project can be done individually or by group depends on the project and also with
the assistance of the CWTS advisers and with the help of the local government in terms
of implementing it.
 The CWTS project should be or if possible should be connected or related to engineering
or to your course (Geodetic Engineering).
Fire Safety and Security

By: Bureau of Fire Protection

Here are my insights from the orientation:

 Ang una ay ang pagkakatatag or pagkakabuo ng Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). The BFP
was created under the DILG by the virtue of RA No. 6975 or also known as DILG Act of
1990.
 The second one is the main and legal role of the BFP which is, the BFP should prevent
and suppress all destructive fires.
 I also learned the mission and vision of the BFP.
 The fourth one is the fire, i learned what are the nature and behavior of the fire. They
also discussed the general cause of the fire which are classified as natural, accidental
and arson.
 The also discussed the the five classification of fire. Class A fire involved the wood,
paper, cloth, rubber, and other plastic. Class B fire involved flammable liquids like
alcohol, gasoline, and paints. Class C fire involved electrical equipment or electrical
appliances. The Class D fire involved combustible metal like magnesium, potassium and
others. The last class is the Class K which also known as kitchen fire.
 They also discussed the parts, kind and how to use the portable fire extinguisher. There
are 3 kinds of fire extinguisher and 9 parts of it.
 They also discussed the basic or the simpliest way to remember how to use a fire
extinguisher which is called PASS; Pull-Aim-Squeeze-Sweep.
 I also learned what are the proper things to do if there is a fire.
Environmental Laws and Protection

Here are my insights for the orientation:

 Tree is very important aspect in our life, if without tree there will be so many
phenomenon can happen, if without tree there will be no or less oxygen in our world.
 Tree can balance the world's temperature and pollutant filter.
 We can also get foods and woods in tree and these two object was also very important
for us humans. We use wood to build a house and use to create house decors, utensils,
and etc.
 My understanding on 10176 (Arbor Day Law of 2012) is that every Filipino who are 12
yrs. old and above need to plant one tree every year inorder to help the society to
lessen the effecr of the climate change.
 This orientation reminds me of the quote "we cannot bring back the old forest but we
can build a new one."
