Our Week in a Nutshell
It’s hard to believe we are almost at
Winter Break! It has been such a great
year thus far. It will be a busy week next
week. Our class finish our second module
of EL. Our focus will be exploring the
rainforest. We will watch a Disney Movie
on December 22nd to analyze character
traits and plot (5.RL.3 and 5.RL.5). We
will start our new topic (chapter) in math
and will work with adding/subtracting
fractions. Our class will utilize
Science/Social Studies to create a winter
craft. Please be sure to check your emails
regularly. I try my best to send updates
and information regarding upcoming
schoolwork, homework, events, etc.

Arrival and Dismissal Note
Per Mr. Beringer, please leave pets at home or
in the car during arrival and dismissal. We
want to make sure the everyone stays safe at
arrival and dismissal, including furry friends.

Tuesday: P.E.
Wednesday: STEAM and P.E.
Thursday: Library and P.E.
Friday: Art, P.E., Winter Party, and Early Dismissal for Students.
CURRICULUM SCHEDULE
Reading: We will aim to finish our first unit of Module 2 in our EL
curriculum this week. We will finish discussing Cause and Effect
(5.RI.5) and Compare/Contrast Text Structure (5.RI.5). We will
then move to Unit 2 and focus on Point of View (5.RL.6). “The
Dreaming Tree” is a great story we will use to discuss Point of View.
Lastly, our class will also analyze character traits (5.RL.3) and plot
(5.RL.5) using a Disney movie on December 22nd.
Science: We will continue our new unit of science titled “Watery
Planet.” We will finish discussing how people access groundwater if
they can’t find a source of fresh water. Last week, our class
learned that salt can be mined out of the ground. We will utilize our
science/social studies time to create a winter craft. Students will
create a winter craft and take this home the day we leave for
break.
Math: Our class will begin topic (chapter) 7 of EnVisions will focus
on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators
(5.NF1-2). We will complete some task cards dividing decimals by
whole numbers and decimals by decimals (5.NBT.7). We will also
work on some one quadrant graphing skills (5.G.1-2). Please continue
to encourage your student work on Khan Mappers and IXL Skill Plans
at home. All of these activities are exactly at their learning level
and just right for them
Please be sure that your child has his/her coat with them for school
each day. Students will still go outside for recess, even if it is cold.
PBIS: BE RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, & SAFE
We are continuing to observe and practice our schoolwide
expectations of being respectful, responsible, and safe. Student
have been doing an amazing job with following the procedures and
routines in the classroom and throughout the building.
