1.

The research design considered only how employees' attitudes and perceptions were
related to job satisfaction and performance. It could also have explored what caused
changes in job satisfaction and performance. What do you think were the reasons
for this?
Correlation is not equal to causation
2. A) Under what circumstances might it be appropriate to use web based instruments
for data collection?
Under the following circumstances it might be appropriate to use web-based instruments
for data collection:
 When there are large no of respondents, sample size is larger.
 When accessibility to the respondent is difficult.
 When the budget is limited.
 For time saving, when employees are scattered and are not under one roof like
during covid .Respondents can answer questions on their own schedule and can
even have flexibility with completion time.
 For Easy data entry, data is instantly available and can easily be transferred into
specialized statistical software or spreadsheets when more detailed analysis is
needed this will save time and effort. (Automatic data entry).
B) When it might be inappropriate to do so?
Under the following circumstances it might be inappropriate to use web based
instruments for data collection:
 When required respondents do not have an access to the Internet. Some examples
of these respondents include the elderly and people who reside in remote areas
 When the chances of survey frauds are high.
 When questions are open ended, because there is no trained interviewer to explore
the answers of the respondents.
3. How confident could the researchers be that the exploratory phase of the research
had actually uncovered relevant issues?
The researchers were quite confident that the exploratory phase of the research has
uncovered the relevant issues because data sampling was correct which reduces the
chances of error in the data obtained. But one error/limitation can be that since the email
was sent to all the employees including managers so the responses of the managers was
also involved but since the managers could have a different perspective and their
response could deviate from employees’ response which can affect the validity of the
research.

B. How might this phase have been more effectively carried out?
They could differentiate between the managers and employees and only send the
questionnaire to the employees that way the response would be more valid, improving the
accuracy of data which would help uncover the relevant issues.
4. A) Do you think the researchers were right to make such high use of already
existing scales in their main questionnaire?
B) Give reasons for your answer.
Yes, I think researchers were right to make such high use of already existing scale in their
main questionnaire because it will help ensure that valid and reliable measurements are
obtained from the respondents.
