(c) 6 h (d) 96 h
Q.No. 16 To 18
Two statements are given- one labelled Assertion (A) and the other labelled
Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes
(a), (b), (c) and (d) as given below.
17 Assertion (A) : Electron Volt and Joule are the units of energy used 1
in modern physics and mechanics respectively.
Reason (R): Different types of energies require different units in SI.
18 Assertion(A): Value of radius of gyration of a body depends 1
on axis of rotation.
Reason: Radius of gyration is root mean square
distance of particle of the body from the axis
of rotation.
Section-B
19 Explain with examples the difference between the fundamental 2
and derived unit.
20 The velocity-time graph of a particle 2
moving along a straight line is
shown in the figure gives below.
Calculate the distance and
displacement of the particle
in 5 second.
OR
The distance travelled by an object moving with uniform
acceleration in 7th and 9th second are respectively 20m and 24 m.
What distance will it travel in 15th second?
21 Find the scalar and vector products of two vectors. 2
a = (3i – 4j + 5 k ) and b = (– 2i + j – 3 k )
22 A shell of mass 25g is fired by a gun of mass 15 kg. If the muzzle 2
speed of the shell is 80m/s, what is the recoil speed of the gun?
OR
Explain why it is easier to pull a lawn roller than to push it?
23 How much should a spring of indefinite length be compressed to 2
have a potential energy equivalent to a ball of mass 6 kg raised to
a height of 120 m above the ground? Let the spring have a stiffness
of k = 100 N/m and assume g = 10 m/s2.
24 Prove that the center of masses of two particles divides the line 2
joining the particles in the inverse ratio of their masses.
25 Write the moment of inertia of the following bodies about given 2
axis of rotation.
(i) Thin circular ring of radius R about its diameter.
(ii) Hollow cylinder of radius R about its axis.
Section-C
26 Consider a simple pendulum, having a bob attached to a string 3
that oscillates under the action of the force of gravity.
Suppose that the period of oscillation of the simple pendulum
depends on its length (l), mass of the bob (m) and acceleration due
to gravity (g). Derive the expression for its time period using
method of dimensions.
27 The position of an object moving along x-axis is given by x = a + bt2 3
where a = 8.5 m, b = 2.5 m s–2 and t is measured in seconds. What
is its velocity at t = 0 s and t = 2.0 s. What is the average velocity
between t = 2.0 s and t = 4.0 s?
OR
An insect trapped in a circular groove of radius 12 cm moves along
the groove steadily and completes 7 revolutions in 100 s.
(a) What is the angular speed, and the linear speed of the motion?
(b) Is the acceleration vector a constant vector? What is its
magnitude?
28 Define Limiting static friction. Three blocks of masses m1 = 10 kg, 3
m2 = 20 kg and m3 = 30 kg are connected by strings on smooth
(ii) From where the falling rain drops gain kinetic energy?
OR
Identify the factors on which centre of gravity depends.
