THE 10 RULES FOR SAFE GUN HANDLING

1. Always treat the gun as loaded - You will always be cautious around firearms if you constantly
handle them as though they are loaded.  Because tragedies may happen if you play with a loaded
gun subconsciously.

2. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction - Keeping them pointed in the ground to avoid
accidentally shooting that you don’t intend to shot.

3. Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot - also known as
trigger finger, keeping your finger straight and off will help in preventing you to accidentally pulling
the trigger while moving.

4. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it. - Whenever you pick up a gun,
immediately engage the safety device if possible. If the gun has a magazine be sure to remove it when
not in use so that it should be clear of ammunition.

5. Never point the gun at anything you don't intend to destroy. - As long as the muzzle is pointed in
a safe direction, no injuries can result from an unintentional firing. Never aim at an unintended target,
including people or objects. Even if its an unloaded gun since you shall always treat is as loaded.

6. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it. - This means observing your prospective area of fire
before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential for
mishap. Think first. Shoot second.

7. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the gun you are using. -Learn how a gun
works before touching one. Learn how to securely open and shut the action, identify its basic
components, and remove any ammo from the rifle or magazine. Never forget that a gun's mechanical
safety mechanism is never 100% reliable. There is never a substitute for prudent gun handling.

8. Always use proper Ammunition - Using improper or incorrect ammunition can destroy a gun and
cause serious personal injury. Firearms are designed, manufactured and proof tested to standards
based upon those of factory loaded ammunition

9. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting - Any little things or objects
can cause dangerously increased pressures, causing the barrel to bulge or even burst on firing, which
can backfire and the debris can cause injury to the shooter and bystanders.

10. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, hold your shooting position for several
seconds; then with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, carefully unload the gun. Occasionally, a
cartridge may not fire when the trigger is pulled - If this occurs, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe
direction. Discharging firearms in poorly ventilated areas, cleaning firearms or handling ammunition
may result in exposure to lead and other substances known to cause birth defects, reproductive harm
and other serious physical injury.
