Activity 3. The works of science and technology greatly influence the development of nation-building in
the country. At this point, let us try to determine the extent of its influence in the country. Please
elaborate your answers to the questions below:

1. The development of science and technology started from pre-colonial even before the invaders
came. It means that as Filipinos we also have the capacity to live on our way or style. Due to the
colonization we adapted some or almost all of the foreign culture. Innovations and
modifications have been made through the years. The best reason why these happens because
it is for us to have easy and convenient life and to make our life more comfortable. It affected
the way we live both positively and negatively.

2.

A. FERDINAND MARCOS - Marcos assisted 107 institutions in undertaking nuclear energy work
by sending scientists to study nuclear science and technology abroad, and providing basic
training to 482 scientists, doctors, engineers, and technicians.
B. CORAZON AQUINO - Corazon Aquino created the Presidential Task Force for Science and
Technology which came up with the first Science and Technology Master Plan or STMP. The
goal of STMP was for the Philippines to achieve newly industrialized country status by the
year 2000.
C. FIDEL RAMOS - Fidel V. Ramos directed the Department of Energy, Department of Science
and Technology and the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute to formulate a comprehensive
nuclear power program for the country. On May 12, 1995, Pres.
D. JOSEPH ESTRADA- In President Joseph Estrada's term, two major legislations that he signed
were Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999 (Republic Act No. 8749) which was designed to protect
and preserve the environment and ensure the sustainable development of its natural
resources, and Electronic Commerce Act of 2000 (Republic Act No.
E. GLORIA ARROYO - First ever national innovation summit 2007 the national innovation called
Filipinnovation was presented to the president to increase the productivity from science and
technology more over the term Filipinovation Contagiously picking the Philippines to be one
that produce innovator in asia.
F. BENIGNO AQUINO JR.- Aquino III and the Department of Agriculture made a 5 years national
advocacy program to provide a conductive environment fo assembling and manufacturing of
the equipment for agriculture and fisheries production prossesing and marketing.
G. RODRIGO DUTERTE – The Act would give more incentive to returning Filipino experts,
scientists, inventorsand engineers who would share their expertise in the country.
Since it’simplementation several scientists have come back to the country on short and
long-term basis to mentor science and engineering students and faculty along with theirline
of expertise through research, development, and other activities. This sharingof expertise
significantly contributed to the acceleration of the scientific agro-industrial and
economic development of the country. This law is a big help inencouraging
Filipino scientists to return to the country and contribute to improvethe nation and peoples
lives. This law addresses the low number of scientists in the country so we can fair better
with our neighboring countries in Asia who have more people working in research and
development. The bill also states that the Balik Scientist Program will prioritize experts in
the fields of Space Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, Energy,
Agriculture, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Information and Communications
Technology, Pharmaceutical, Disaster Mitigation and Management, Environment
and National Resources ,Electronics, Genomics, Health, Manufacturing, Nano Technology,
Cyber Security And Semi- Conductors

NAME GREATEST SCIENTIFIC TECHNOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTION OF THE COLONIZERS

BROUGHT IN THE CPUNTRY THAT PROMOTES NATION-BUILDING

The colonization of the Philippines contributed to growth of science and technology in the
archipelago. The Spanish introduced formal education and founded scientific institution.
During the early years of Spanish rule in the Philippines.

LETS ANALYZE
ACTIVITY 3

1. Technology plays a fundamental role in wealth creation, improvement of the quality

of life and real economic growth and transformation in any society. Essentially,
technology is the primary engine of economic growth
2. The specific government policy that I like the most is REPUBLIC ACT NO. 2067 AN ACT
TO PROMOTE SCIENTIFIC, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGICAL RESEARCH, INVENTION
AND DEVELOPMENT Because, this policy encourages our scientist for innovation in
technological advancement for the purpose of the public.
3. The essence of S&T is in how it creates new knowledge and then utilizes that
knowledge to boost the prosperity of human lives, and to solve the various issues
faced by society. S&T has played a pivotal role in improving living conditions across
the globe.
4. One of the best things our government could do for science is investing more in
renewable energy. Investing in clean, sustainable energy would create jobs not only
for scientists but for engineers and technicians who are needed to manufacture solar
panels and wind turbines.

IN A NUTSHELL

1. It’s right that the key to nation-building is the continued development and
application of science and technology. But perhaps, there must be policies or laws
to be followed to control and limit the might destructive effect on the
environment and to the people, just to achieve nation-building.
2. The key to successful nation is by improving it every time with the help of science
and technology since both of it will lead to inventions that can change status of a
nation.
3. Nations need to be together or build alliances so that it will be easier for them to
help one another in improving the lives of the people living in different countries.
