Let’s Check

Activity 3. The works of science and technology greatly influenced the development of
nation-building in the country. At this point, let us try to determine the extent of its influence
in the country. Please elaborate your answers to the questions below:

1. Discuss the traced development of science and technology from the pre-colonial
times up to the present.
- The traced development of science and technology from the pre-
colonial times up to the present has so much similarities. It is like the
descendants of latest period when it comes to invention and
development in science and technology. The advancement of these
inventions in pre-colonial or after that period can still see on today’s
technologies.

During 800-1300 CE:

- Invention of Eyeglasses
- Development of Indigenous Clocks

During 1450-1470:

- Modern Printing Press

- First Parachute

16th Century:

- First Compound Microscope

17th Century:

- Invention of Telescope
- Invention of Microscope
- Invention of Barometer
- Study of Magnetism
- Thermometer
- Isaac’s three laws of motion

18th Century:

- First Steam Engine

- Binary System
- Invention of Pyrometer

19th Century:

- Invention of first battery

- Invention of papermaking machine
- Electric Generators
- Theory of Conservation of Energy

20th Century:

- Invention of Electric Clothes Washer

- Invention of Mechanical Television
- Invention of Refrigerator
- Invention of Radar
- First Astronauts who walks on the moon

21st Century:

- Invention of 3D TV
- Invention of Vacuum Cleaning Robot
- Quantum Computing
- Electronic Voting
- Super computers
- Many more
2. Identify some achievements in the field of science and technology from president
Marcos up to the present administration.

country that promotes nation-building.

- The colonizers brought the country with tons of scientific

technological contributions such as new methods of agriculture,
study of medicine, industrialization, food processing, and
education.

Let’s Analyze

Activity 3. In this activity, you are required to elaborate on your answer to each of the
questions below.

1. What do you think are the significant contributions of science and technology to
the Philippine nation-building?
- I think that health, life, agriculture, economy, and culture are the
significant contributions that the science and technology brought
to the Philippine nation-building. We explored the everything to
answer and solution to the problem that arise and may arise in
the future with the help of science and technology. That is why, I
think in every sector or field of our nation, science and technology
brought many significant contributions to build the nation of
Philippine.
2. What specific government policy do you like the most in contributing to the
development of science and technology in the Philippines?
- Republic Act No. 2067 is the specific government policy that I like
the most in contributing to the development of science and
technology in the Philippines. This policy helps in promoting
scientific, engineering, and technological, research, and
inventions, and developments in which encourages the scientist
to innovate and create more advancements in different fields.
3. How science and technology relevant to the development of nation-building?
- The science and technology relevant to the development of
nation-building in terms of making progress to any nation.
Improvement in the quality of life and development in each sector
or field of a nation. Building the nation requires tools which is the
science and technology to help the body of nation to survive in
every crisis that they are facing or may come in the future.
4. What policies do you want the government to implement in the near future?
- The policies that are implemented are not all successful but if I
want to implement policies in the near future, it would be in the
field of education and health. In education, I want to implement a
policy that provides more opportunity and attention for people
with disabilities. While I want to implement a policy in health in
which funds for medicine for people should rise.

In a Nutshell

Activity 3. Science and technology have brought a significant impact on the development
of the country and changes the life of the society as well, particularly in the colonization
period. We’re able to promote and develop our technological applications for nation-
building. In this activity, again, you are required to draw conclusions or perspectives from
the periods affecting the country. I will supply the first item, and you will continue the rest.

1. It’s right that the key to nation-building is the continued development and
application of science and technology. But perhaps, there must be policies or laws
to be followed to control and limit the might destructive effect on the environment
and to people, just to achieve nation-building.
2. The aftermaths of continuing the development of science and technology should
be looked and will not be ignore. Plans that will provide a break for aftermaths
should be laid out to avoid big impact.
3. Advancements and application of science and technology in nation-building is a
core step but a crucial part. Handling problems is inevitable for a country but using
these science and technology is a huge advantage for every crisis.
