The White Nights Festival is an annual summer festival in Saint Petersburg celebrating its near-midnight
sun phenomena due to its location near the Arctic Circle. Each year between around April 21 and August
21, the skies only reach twilight and never reach complete darkness. (White Nights Festival, n.d.) White
night festival, a show celebrating the end of the school year, is famous for fireworks and Scarlet Sails.I think
White night festival is a very beautiful festival because people can enjoy this festival happily. There are
lights all around the river that make it one of the things that you do not want to miss during the festival. After
enjoying a few fireworks and the boats, you can join the people, dancing near the Neva river and try some
snacks and drinks with them. The purpose of the white nights festival is to enhance culture exchanges
between Russia and the whole world.It was also created to improve the image of Russia and promote it as
a world center for arts.The tradition is highly popular for its spectacular fireworks,numerous music concerts
and a massive water show. (Omondi, 2017)

Components of the global festival: White Night

Decor:We will be using 2 cocksheets for decoration purposes. Cost for the cocksheets will be around 200
taka. We will use thin papers to make the alphabet, and ballet dancers. We will make 2 stands using
cocksheets to hold the alphabets. The bridge,moon and stars will also be made using cocksheets.Also,we
will make a red sail using paper.

Posters: Our poster will have history. And three types of images with description such as: food (Pelmeni
are dumplings of Russian cuisine that consist of a filling wrapped in thin, unleavened dough. Pelmeni have
been described as "the heart of Russian cuisine".) bridge with fireworks (Russians decorate the entire Saint
Petersburg bridge (with lights during the White Night Festival. It decorates the sky with fireworks. Which
makes them happy).

Food: for presentation Pelmeni are traditional Russian dumplings made with a simple dough of flour, water,
eggs, and salt. Typically, they are stuffed with a filling of ground chicken, turkey, or beef seasoning with
onions and salt and pepper. It is largely considered the national dish of Russia.
Drink-Kvass is a traditional fermented non-alcoholic beverage commonly made from rye bread, and while
kvass is seen as the national non-alcoholic drink, it is vodka that most Russians identify as their national

Drama: The story is about a Russian girl who is extremely introverted and detached from life experiences
due to loneliness and less communication. Her parents' work life caused this development of nature in her
which made her aloof from the outside world. She doesn’t have any friends either. It was 1993 and just like
other days she went out to the grocery and saw a random advertisement for an event. Her curiosity made
her read it and she got to know about a festival named “White Nights Festival “ she had no idea about it but
the details of the festival made her want to go there. So she attended the festival on its second day.
Everything was so lively and amusing to her that she got excited and started enjoying it. During the
carnival, a group of friends also went there. They noticed the excited yet nervous and confused girl and
approached her to get to know if she needed any help. Later they got to know that this is the first time she’s
visiting there and they offered her help since they already attended the first day of the festival. She
hesitated as she is not well known for opening herself to people and making friends but they somehow
managed to convince her in the end. They first visited a gathering where a singer was performing a local
song. All of them enjoyed it. After the performance the host announced that their local dancers are going to
perform a traditional dance of the festival. The girl was enjoying all of it with her newly made friends and
she was feeling surreal about everything that happened throughout the festival. Her decision to come to the
festival, making friends and being out of her introverted self was something very unexpected. She was
grateful that this festival happened and she got to explore the world full of lights and colors. The charm of
white nights festival made a great impact on her life as it dragged her from darkness towards the light of a
lifetime experience.
