Detailed Lesson Plan

in Physical Education
 
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a.) Define zumba;
b.) Execute the three parts of zumba;
c.) Value the importance of zumba fitness program and its health benefits through a
video presentation.
 
II. Subject Matter
Content : Active Recreation
Content Standards : Demonstrates understanding of lifestyle and weight
management to promote community fitness.

Performance Standards : 1. Maintains an active lifestyle to influence the


physical activity participation of the community.
: 2. Practices healthy eating habits that support an
active lifestyle.

III. Procedures:

A. Preliminaries
- Prayer
- Checking of Attendance
- Checking of assignment (If there’s any)

B. Preparatory Activity
- Energizer (if necessary)

C. Developmental Activities

ACTIVITY
The class will execute a dance routine by following the video presented in the screen
accompanied by music.

ANALYSIS
The following questions will be asked:
1. What was the video all about?
2. How was your feeling after the dance performance?
3. What do you think is our lesson for today?

ABSTRACTION
The teacher will employ discovery learning, hands-on learning and inductive teaching
methods. (Indicator Nos.1, 2 & 3)

Zumba
-is “A FUN EXERCISE FITNESS PROGRAM, COMBINATION OF A DANCE
WITH MUSIC.”

Activity (Instruction)
The class will be divided into three groups. Each group will select one leader and
secretary. Leaders of each group will be given task envelope with assigned topic to discuss in
every group. After the allotted time, each group will discuss and execute their topic in front of
the class.

The Three parts of Zumba


1. Warm-up - performed before a performance or practice. It prepares the muscles
for vigorous actions. It prevents muscle cramps and injury due to over exertion.
Warm-up exercise and stretching is a key to minimize all kinds of sports injury.
2. Aerobic Dance - involves any kind of dance put to music and can include
everything from Zumba (a Latin-inspired dance aerobics) to hip-
hop dancing. A typical dance class usually begins with a 5 to 10 minute
warm-up, followed by a 20- to 30-minute aerobic routine, and ends with a
5- to 10-minute cool down.
3. Cool-down - is an easy exercise, done after a more intense activity, to allow
the body to gradually transition to a resting or near-resting state.

APPLICATION
(Indicator No. 6)
For the mastery, students will be presenting varied performances. Ahead of time, they were
grouped according to their inclination. Groups are as follows, Linguistic Intelligence, Musical
Intelligence and Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence. The task of Linguistic Intelligence is to create a
short poem about the benefits of zumba. While the Musical and Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence
will be working together in composing a song promoting zumba in the community, putting a tune
and action to a created piece.
IV. Evaluation
(Indicator No. 1&3)
I. Valuing the topic through real life application.
In relation to Science, a video clip regarding the importance and health benefits of dance as an
exercise will be played and the following questions will be asked.
1.) In the video presented, what are the health benefits of zumba?
2.) How can this activity improve our health condition?
3.) Why is it that we need to participate in this of activity?
