A. Clause
1. Independent vs Dependent Clause
An independent clause is a clause that can stand alone and can be called a
complete sentence because it has a complete meaning or idea. An independent
clause consists of a subject, predicate, and other components so as to form a
complete thought.
Example : -The party will begin at 08.00 p.m. (pestanya akan dimulai pukul 8
malam)
-My cousin wishes me a merry christmas. (sepupuku mengucapkan
selamat natal)

An Dependent clause is a group of words that contain a subject and a verb

(verb) but cannot express a complete thought.
Example: -I want to spend my holiday in Bali because Bali is so beautiful. (Saya
ingin menghabiskan liburan saya di Bali karena Bali sangat indah.)
-My brother didn’t like the dish that I cooked. (Kakak laki-laki saya tidak suka
makanan yang saya masak.

B. Sentences
1. Simple Sentences
A simple sentence is an independent clause that conveys a single, complete
thought. Unlike a complex sentence, a simple sentence does not contain dependent
or subordinate clauses.
Example :
1. I cannot drink warm milk.
2. A day without sunshine is like night.
2. Compound Sentences
A compound sentence is a sentence that combines two independent clauses,
which are connected by a conjunction or conjunction. One of the uses of using
compound sentences is to streamline the sentences that you will write or express.
Example :1. Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm
not sure about the former.
2. There used to be a real me, but I had it surgically removed.
3. Complex Sentences
A complex sentence is a complex sentence in English in which there is one main
clause or an independent clause, and at least one bound clause or a subordinate
clause. In simple terms, the way to understand a complex sentence is to know the
independent clause which consists of a subject and a verb. An independent clause can
be likened to a sentence that can stand alone, such as "She wants to drink a glass of
banana juice". It can be concluded that the way to express complex sentences is by
combining independent clauses with dependent clauses or vice versa by adding
conjunctions such as if, unless, when, before, although, who, that, because, and others.
Example :
1.After I bake the cookies, I will visit my sister
2.I will visit my grandmother after I bake the cookies
3.I want to join the Mathematics Olympic because I’m very good at it
4.Because I’m very good at it, I want to join the Mathematics Olympic

7.I will give you my book when I finish reading that book
