Can you identify the two independent clauses? What about the dependent clause? This type of sentence is called COMPOUND- COMPLEX sentence. A compound-complex sentence is a sentence having two or more independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses. A compound-complex sentence consists of tree parts: • There is the compound part which means that two simple sentences are joined by a coordinating conjunction or a comma. • And the third part is the interrupter or the dependent on one of the other parts of the sentence. Examples:
1. I decided to enrol in an English program and my
friend Richard came along with me; however, the program is already closed when we arrived. 2. Even though the English program is filled up, I will still try my luck, but my friend Richard changed his mind. 3. I insistently talked to the instructor because of my determination to learn, and yes, she allowed me to be part of her class. 4. I am very much elated for it was a dream come true although Richard and I will not be together.
