Q1. a) Identify and briefly discuss FOUR (4) main process involved in the
natural hydrological cycle. (8 marks)

b) The World Health Organization states that drinking water needs to be purified and treated
before circulation to consumers. Briefly discuss SIX (6) common raw water treatment
process practiced here in Malaysia to meet the standards mentioned above. (12 marks)

c) Sketch and briefly explain the radial water distribution system. (5 marks)

d) Sketch and label an indirect cold water supply consisting of these following items:
i) Water main, communication pipe, water meter.
ii) Service pipe, rising main, distribution pipe.
iii) Cold water cistern, shower and drinking water sink. (9 marks)

Briefly discuss the function of the following sanitary pipes:

i) Waste pipe

Sketch an annotated diagram indicating the vapour compression refrigeration cycle

Sound Reduction Index value if a door with a height of 2.5m and a width of 1.6m is added to

b) Identify the FIVE (5) detrimental effects of prolonged noise exposure. (5 marks)

A cylindrical boiler with a diameter of 0.5m is supplying hot water to a kitchen. The heating
coil at the base has an effective power of 3kW.Ignoring all the heat loss and gains for the
scenario above;

i) Calculate the mass of water retained if the maximum height allowed


in the boiler is 0.4m.

ii) Calculate the time needed to boil the water if it is initially 28 0C. (6 marks)

a)

A tutorial room with a dimension of 15m x 10m x 4m requires a service illuminance of 600
lux on tables that are set 1m above the floor.
Each tubular fluorescent lamp is rated 100 W with a luminous efficacy of 80 lm/W. They are
to be placed in recessed louvre mounted on ceilings with a DLOR of 50%.
Q6. (Room Reflectance Value = 0.7 for ceilings and 0.5 for walls) (Light Loss Factor = 0.49)

i) Calculate the Room Index value for the tutorial room. (6 marks)

ii) Indentify the Utilisation Factor value for the luminaries stated above. (1mark)

iii) Referring to the lumen method calculate the number of lamps required for the tutorial
room. (6 marks)

iv) Comment if a horizontal spacing of 5m between luminaries is appropriate for the


situation above. ( 2 marks )

The natural illuminance at a point inside a room is recorded as 500 lux .If the value of a
minimum unobstructed uniform standard sky is employed calculate the Daylight Factor at
that point. (5 marks)
