This chapter contains the presentation, analysis and interpretation of

qualitative data gathered from the five (5) subjects about the life struggles and

experiences of working students under Accountancy, Business and Management

strand.

1.Experiences of ABM Students that are Working while Studying

Working students encounters different challenges while they are under the

Accountancy, Business and Management strand that results to changes in their

academic performance in school.

The theme that arose from the interview with three (3) of the five (5)

subjects revealed that working while studying is hard for them especially to do

their school works and to maintain their academic performance. It had been

observed that as they answered, a tired face was evident.

Subject 2: “Bilang isang working students? (Tumingin sa taas), marami,

unang-una sa lahat naghahati kase yung oras ko.. sa
paggawa ng assignments ng-ahh working activities (tumaas
ang dalawang kilay) or research, something like that don sa

Subject 4: "Ang naging karanasan ko bilang working student in ABM

masyado masalihan (nag-isip) or magawan. "

This has been supported by the study of Curtis and Shani (2022) which

revealed that students who are working part-time would most likely miss lectures

with a lot of lessons to catch and feel that they could achieve higher grades had

they not been working.

On the other hand, one (1) of the five (5) subjects answer that he/she

experience that working while studying will benefit him/her to have a own

business someday even though ABM was not her strand choice. In the same

way, it had been observed that as he/she answered, a dreamy and lonely face

was evident.

gusto kong kunin, simula nung nag working student nga ako

This has been supported by the article of University of Negros Occidental-

Recolectos (2021) which stated that taking ABM strand is for those who plan to

take up business-related courses in higher education or engage in business,

entrepreneurship, and other business-related careers.

While the theme that arose from the interview with one (1) of the five (5)

subjects stated that it’s hard for him/her to balance his/her time to work and to

study. It had been observed that as he/she answered, a dismayed face was

evident.

This has been supported by the study of Joanne Mitchell (2020) which

revealed that irrespective of the number of hours worked, students reported their

work impacted negatively on their academic success as it diminished the amount

of time they had to study.

2. Struggles Faced by Working Students and How do they Overcome it.

The subjects stated what are the struggles they encounter as an ABM

student and how they overcome it.

The theme that arose from the interview with three (3) of the five (5)

subjects subjects revealed that by the help of their family they are able to

overcome their problems. It had been observed that as they answered, a thankful

tone was evident in their voice.

ano ba talagang gus- yung…, parang dapat kong gawin. Kase
kase eight hours akong nasa school, ganon (nageyecontact).”

can boost performance in the workplace, offering meaningful implications for

research on motivation and the dynamics of work and family engagement.

school. It had been observed that as he/she answered, a serious face was

evident.

pagtatrabaho.”

This has been supported by the study of Claessens et al. (2007) which

revealed that time management behaviors relate positively to perceived control of

time, job satisfaction, and health, and negatively to stress. The relationship with

work and academic performance is not clear. Time management training seems

to enhance time management skills, but this does not automatically transfer to

better performance.

(nakangiti).”

This has been supported by the study of Bowen (2003) which revealed

that students perceptions about their own motivation type and how this may

influence and impact on student engagement. Students respond differently to

intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and each motivation type results in different form

of engagement in and with their learning.

yun- mga that time kase wala ng gagawen (pinagsiklop ang

(2018) which stated that Students need to prioritize and efficiently manage their

time so that their grades aren’t negatively affected by work. The key is to find the

right balance and develop good habits to ensure your studies get the attention

tulong sa kaklase ko in a point na ( tumingin sa taas)
nagtatanong ako sa kanila kung may gagawin pa, ganon
(tinaas yung dalawang kilay) inaadvance kona, inaadvance
kona syang gawin.”

This has been supported by the study of Kralovec and Buell (2000) which

stated that students can’t do independent learning because they’re busy doing

work assigned by someone else.

While the theme that arose from interview with one (1) of the five subjects

revealed that he/she do his/her homework while working. It had been observed

that as he/she answered a tired face was evident.

that students must be able to have great time management skills to survive the

hectic schedule and maintain a good social life. As a matter of fact, the idea of

whether working and studying at the same time provides more advantages than

disadvantages varies, based on the perspectives of each individual.

(5) subjects revealed that he/she divides the time for working and studying. It had

been observed that as he/she answered a lively voice was evident.

saka ko sya gagawin.”
This has been supported by the study of Hamal and Mohamad (2016)

which revealed that if they can manage their work and study time; as a result,

they may achieve their goals due to their ability to manage a hectic schedule.

The competitive environment in which we all live today encourages people to

plan and manage time effectively.

4. Proposed Findings of the Study

It was found out that students who are working while studying has their

own struggles and experiences. They have their own ways on how they

overcome and how they do their study and work at the same time. Aside from

worrying how will they simultaneously do their school activities and work, they

are also worried on how can they help their families in terms of financial help.

The researchers proposed that the working students must have their own

inspiration, motivation and an enthusiasm to keep going just to pursue their

dreams.
