Multimodal Reflection

For my multimodal project I decided to change my community service essay into a TikTok

video and a poster which can be shared on multiple social media platforms. My essay was

about an internship I joined back in 2018, to work with PRC (Pakistan Red Crescent) for a

community service project. In 2018, I joined PRC for their summer intern project, where I

worked with their Youth and volunteer department. I as a group leader had to allocate

everyone their tasks, collaborate with my teammates on ideas for blood donation drives, put

together presentations and artworks for the promotion of our work, and set stalls around our

city for blood collection. Our goal was to collect blood donations from people passing by and

later distribute the collected blood donations to hospitals where there is a vital request for

blood for patients who undergo surgeries. This project was not an easy one to tackle, as not

everyone was willing to donate their blood. In the first few days, no one would come up to

our stall to donate blood. So, I and my team came up with new ideas to make color full

posters for display. Along with posters, we prepared gift bags to give out to those who will

donate their blood. We also came up with a plan to set up our stalls in the most crowded

public places like shopping malls and parks. Finally, our plan was a success, and we were

able to collect an immense amount of blood donations.

I chose the mediums I did because of the convenience social media acts as for the viewers.

Most people have social media and check it daily. They like to keep up with their favorite

celebrities, companies, and their everyday friends. Posting my video on Instagram will

generate the most views for my blog. I do not believe my mediums created any constraints

that I would not have in another medium. I chose my linguistic terms very carefully. I did not

want to use any words that the common person would not understand. There are some terms

that only outdoor enthusiasts know. If an amateur hiker decided to check out my blog, I

wanted them to understand it. I decided to use Canva for my TikTok. Canva is easy to use

and provided templates that I really liked. My video is a template that Canva provided, all I

had to do was some simple editing with the text and effects. For my poster I used

PowerPoint, which was easily accessible and convenient to use. This project was easy and

very interesting for me. I got to learn how easy and fast it is to make videos on Canva. I loved

doing this project because community service means a lot to me so recreating something with

my favorite memory of community service and awareness was fun. This assignment showed

me how we can express or show same context on different mediums to interact with people

and how each platform is different to other.
