TAKE AWAY ESSAY ABOUT THE MOVIE “CODED BIAS”

Coded Bias is a movie that focuses rising of the technology highlighting on security and privacy.
A Black American woman, who are known to be a strong woman likes technology. On my take aways,
Coded Bias is about protecting the security and privacy of an individual. The main protagonist of the
documentary which is the woman continuously scrutinizing the flawed and bias use of technology for
security and detection, it is used as weaponry for search that most of the time it is inaccurate and can
risk a person’s life. Introducing the known technology today which is the Facial recognition. This
technology is continuously used as of today, not just in the highways, biometrics, but also in our data we
feed on our technology. This technology was used to be a good development in our growing technology
in these modern days but it there was a flaw where it can use to exploit someone. In the documentary,
it was used to search for someone in a road using the police car and showing some flawed accuracy and
identifying random citizen to be known as criminal by record matching in the database. This is
unacceptable and a slap in the face for the people that why it was argued at some point. Joy, an MIT
researcher focused on determining these flaws and give takes that this shouldn’t be used now. It clearly
showed to her that these recognitions were right in front of her shown a discriminating result that most
white people are easily picked up better. Not on this was highlighted in the documentary but also the
introduction of data collection and Artificial Intelligence. With this, it was used to in many organizations
where this algorithm clearly shows bias and unfair accuracy for many especially women. Joy clearly
stated that it was an unnecessary for this and will just cause another way to express racism in an
environment. Joy as continuously focuses on this research until it reaches the heights where she would
fight for proper treatment of each citizen of the country. Protecting the integrity of each one, clearly
showing that this implementation was flawed and unnecessary.
These are the topic points that I highlighted from the documentary, The rise of technology
where it was a sign of development. Using Facial Recognition as an identity and social status of an
individual. Artificial Intelligence as mode of identification in looking for jobs.
