History

The Abenson Group of Companies (also known as "Abenson Inc.", "Abenson Ventures,

Inc." or simply "Abenson") is a retail-oriented, family-owned business operating in

the Philippines since 1970. It sells home and business appliances and furniture, information

technology products and consumer goods through its affiliates and subsidiaries "Abenson",

"ElectroWorld", "Avant", "Abea", Thailand-based manufacturer and retailer "SB Furniture",

"HomePlus" and "Smile Serve". Abenson subsidiary "WalterMart" operates supermarkets and

cinemas since the 1990s. Abenson is the biggest dealer of Top Brands such as Sony, Carrier,

Sharp, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Pioneer and Philips. With several formats for the customers like

Stand Alone stores, Mall Anchor store, Lifestyle format (Avant), also with flexible sizes.

Abenson Ventures Inc. is just one of the business units of Abenson Group of Companies divided

into two (2) main group, each having distinct product portfolios namely: consumer business

group and office business group. Abenson takes pride in its achievement being the pioneers in

appliance super marketing and its enviable position as the industry leader.

One of its affiliates, Electroworld is the biggest IT chain store in the country and the

leader in promoting the digital lifestyle. Electroworld has always been at the forefront of

introducing new technology such as PDAs, Digital Cameras, MP3 Players and Notebook

computers. Nearly 20 years ago, it introduced the first mainstream personal computer in the

country. Today, Electroworld is the clear leader in personal digital products.is a computer store

with 30 chains nationwide. The most recognized name in the IT retail industry. Another, sister

company of Abenson is the Homeplus (and Abea) which is known for its exclusive designs and

imported home furniture. It has over 31 branches operating nationwide. Further, one of the

youngest and fastest growing supermarket chains, Walter Mart Supermarket has gained a
sizeable market since it operated in 1995.Waltermart is a home and office supermarket which

features a full range supermarket, home center, furniture department, office center, food outlets,

family entertainment areas, especially shops and department stores. Over the years, it has gained

loyalty because of its convenient locations and superior customer shopping experience.

The founder of Abenson, Wilson Lim, came from the family of achievers. His father,

Benito Lim was known for being the “Appliance King”, while his brother, Samie Lim was the

Chairman of the Philippine Retailers Association and a Vice Chairman of Federation of Asian

Retailer’s Association. At young age, he worked with a family-run business, the Automatic

Center which was founded by his father. He leaved his family to study abroad the practices of the

same business. After months of observing and a year of working on his father’s business, he

decided to open his first Abenson store inside the newly commercialized Green Hills Shopping

Center in 1970 and pioneered the concept of a “supermarket” for appliances.

Today, Abenson belongs to the top 200 corporations in the Philippines. The Head Office

of the corporation is located in 8001 A Waltermart Bldg. Veterans, Munoz, Quezon City, Metro

Manila, Philippines. It is now the biggest appliance and gadget store in the Philippines with more

than 120 stores in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and has been in the industry for 50 years. Also,

the company is a consistent recipient of Market Excellence Award and a Vendor Awardee of the

Contact Center Association of Philippines (CCAP).
