BUSINESS MANAGEMENT FOR ARCHITECTURE 1

“BALANGKASAN: “Is it time for the Local Government to mandate the Establishment of
a City Architect’s Office?”

The webinar went well and interesting as it talked about the idea of establishing a
City Architect’s Office in the Local Government Units. Both sides of Engineering and
Architecture panelists expressed their stand. The Engineering side preferred not to have
a City Architect’s Office as it will only confuse or affect the already existing structure of
the city offices in the entire country. They do have a point, actually, as it will only change
the Local Government Code of R.A. 7160. But, on the bright side, it isn’t about they’re
against the profession, they concern more on the changes that might happen if there
would be a new mandate to establish a City Architecture’s Office, knowing that our
country is not that advance and fast when it comes to changes, it might affect as well
the services for the Filipinos.

However, the Architecture side is supporting the idea of having a City Architect’s
Office as it is evident that the profession is receiving small recognition in the country
even though Architects help a lot in making the country better by producing city plans. It
was stated as well that Architects should inspect and sign the plans, as it is giving an
idea to people that engineers are the ones doing the job which result to less recognition
again on the Architect’s work. That is why they’re pushing that it should be mandated in
our country and have a fair and square work with the rest of profession in the industry.

I would have to stand on the Architecture side, not because I am an architecture

student but because it is just and right to give them a fair share of work in the industry.
