1. Letters on String:
Select the order of the alphabet you want to teach the sounds of (e.g)
Cut out cardboard alphabets.
Hang them on a string according to the chosen order.
Large Letters:
Besides being almost as tall as the child, these letters can be decorated with pictures of
objects beginning with that letter.
Any material can be used for making these big letters.
Making these letters will involve several other activities, engaging all students and enabling
active learning. This classroom will be teacher-centered partly and partly student-centered, this is
activity-based classroom students are involved into there.
2. Alphabet Cookies:
Letters in the form of cookies can also serve as an effective source of teaching letters.
It’s a good and attractive way of learning, children are involved in making and eating cookie
alphabets.
Activities always tell the children and give them the opportunity and space to get involved in
that thing.
3. Letter Cards:
Print out the letter cards, and have the young student color the letters with crayons or paint
markers.
This activity also helps the students in identifying and recognizing the letters, and placing them
as required.
Take boards printed with letters (or paste a sheet printed with letters on the board)
Take letter shapes, better to use colorful letters.
Tell children to fix the letter shape on its place on the board.
This is essentially a matching activity
It is better to conduct this activity in pairs or groups.
According to Vygotsky’s social interaction theory, “whenever the children are learning
something it’s better to put them in groups because they learn things very easily when
they are having a discussion when they are having to sport each other”.
This theory is also applicable to the higher classes.
