The social dilemma documentary film it’s good to understand the effects of using technology and social

media and how this two influences the way we think and manipulate our action towards in a specific
situation. The film made me realize that social media not only helps us in our everyday lives it also has a
positive and negative impact in our lives specially in our relationship to does people around us, and
knowing that we don’t have any privacy at all because to those people behind our screens they know
what exactly we’re doing and what we want to do and they know our personal information. According
to Jeff Seibert (2020), “Every single action that you take is carefully monitored and recorded. Exactly
what images you stop look at, and for how long you look at it”. Addiction is one of the negative impact
of social media it can lead to anxiety and depression. The design of different social websites is capable
of causing addiction and affecting mental health of young individuals (Orlowski, 2020). The film show the
increasing effect of social media related to the anxiety and depression of teenagers. Social media addicts
also displayed negative bias effect like in some part of the film which show some negative information
or fake news and according to (Becker and Leineger, 2011) their study point out that someone
processing a bias toward negative information maybe is the common reason having a addictive
behavior. My personal experiences I think that are relevant in the film is that im addict also in using
social media like Ben and Isla in the film. I have noticed that I’m addicted is when that time to time I
check out my phone to see if there’s a new notification. Most of my time I spent in using social media
like facebook, Instagram and tiktok but sometimes this three application causes my anxiety and
depression maybe because of what I read and see in it, for me it’s hard to avoid not being depressed
especially if you have insecurities in your body. Like when Isla felt, she got depressed when someone
commented on her post about her ears the comment is "can you make your ears bigger???" after that
situation she has always cover her ears because of that person I totally felt what Isla felt in that scene.
Social media presents both risk and opportunities for adolescents (Subrahmanyam, 2019).

The issues that I think are violated in the film first is how social media companies manipulates its users
by the use of algorithms that may result in addictions to their application and how they get the personal
data of their users by the use of ads that is not regulated legally. This illegal doings can be held liable
under the law of Republic Act No. 10173, also known as Data Privacy Act of 2012, this law aims to
protect personal data information and communication systems both in government and private sector.
According to (Caplan, 2007) Privacy is an important feature of internet. Social media companies are
engaging it’s users to misinformation that may affect to their beliefs and actions that may result in
negative information.

Our data in social media is impactful in our lives because I do believe that social media knows us better,
they have the ability to track our behavior and our browsing history and etc because of that they can
predict what we want they will send advertisement or sometimes there’s new notification will pop up
out of nowhere. For me we can't escape social media anymore because we are now in living with
technology. We can achieve balance we just need to know how to use the technology and social media
in a responsible way do not let this two manipulate us and became our world. I believe that there is a lot
of benefits in using social media we just need how to use it correctly.
