Q1. Work together to develop a hypothesis about the distribution of color in your sample of stones.

Answer: After working together as a group, we have developed a hypothesis about the distribution of
various colors in our sample of stones. The table below shows the hypothesis:

TABLE: A hypothetical distribution of different colored stones in a bowl

% Of
Group % Of Blue % Of Purple % Of Green Yellow % Of Orange % Of Red %Of Off-
Name Stones stones Stones stones stones stones white stones
D 4% 60% 20% 5% 5% 5% 1%

Q2. Prepare a Table (Table 1) and enter your data on total number of different colour stones in
your sample. Combine the data from other groups and find the average of each colour. Give a
proper title of the table.

Answer:

TABLE: A distribution on the total number of different colors stones in our sample.

No. of No. of No. of No. of No. of No. of No. of Off-

Group Total no. Blue Purple Green Yellow Orange Red white
Name of stones Stones stones Stones stones stones stones stones
D 72 7 21 13 8 11 10 2

TABLE: A distribution showing the total number of different colored stones found in samples
across different groups

No. of No. of No. of No. of No. of No. of No. of Off-

Group Total no. Blue Purple Green Yellow Orange Red white
Names of stones Stones stones Stones stones stones stones stones
A 87 6 7 15 16 14 14 15
B 81 8 8 10 16 17 13 9
C 82 16 13 10 14 9 12 8
D 72 7 21 13 8 11 10 2
E 78 15 12 9 10 12 7 13
Average 80 10.4 12.2 11.4 12.8 12.6 11.2 9.4
After Combining the data from other groups, we have found the average of each color.

Average of each color given in the sample:

Blue Purple Green Yellow Orange Red Off-White

9.25 12.25 12 13.5 12.75 12.25 8.5

Q3. Show the percentages of each color of stones (Table 2) in all groups (including yours) and the
averages. Give a proper title of the table.

Answer:

samples across different groups

Q4: Make a pie chart of the percentages of each color in your sample. Be sure to label your graph
properly in Microsoft Excel!

Q6. Look at your hypothesis;

i) Was your hypothesis supported, or not, by the data?

Answer: No, our hypothesis was not supported by our data. We had estimated far less
for our sample data hypothesis
ii) What are the differences between sample data and population data?
Answer: the population data is huge; sample data is not. The population data is less
random than sample data.
iii) Please explain.
Answer: we took a small amount of data from the population thus the randomness of
the data is much more than that of population.
