Awareness cum Training Programme on “Sustainable Crop Protection through

Integrated Pest Management” at KVK Unakoti, Chantail

ICAR-NCIPM, New Delhi in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Unakoti,
Chantail conducted a Training cum awareness programme on Sustainable Crop Protection
through Integrated Pest Management on 18 May, 2022. Subject Matter Specialist Plant
Protection from KVK and Dr. Mukesh Sehgal, Principal Scientist, NCIPM explained various
methods of using IPM kits like light trap, pheromone trap, fruit fly trap etc. in some of
the major crops in the District and also highlighted successful IPM technologies which
are being popularized in other Districts of Tripura. Also, he emphasized identifying
beneficial Insects and protecting them for better production of crops achieved by
destroying harmful insects. A total of 87 tribal and non-tribal farmers from various parts
of the Unakoti District participated in the programme among which 39 were female
farmers. Various IPM kits were also distributed among the farmers.

Front line Demonstration of late blight disease management of potato


To prevent the late blight of potato, demonstrations of late blight was carried
out in farmer’s field at Bilashapur and Kaulikora, Kailashahar, Unakoti District during
2021-22. Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat developed and released a late blight
control strategy for Phytophthora infestans management. It consists of one spray of
Mancozeb @2.5 g/lit) at 35-40 days after planting; One spray of Metalxyl plus
mancozeb @2.5 g/lit at the first appearance of disease if; One spray of mancozeb @
2.5 g/lit after 10 days of second spraying &One spray of Mancozeb + Metalaxyl after
10 days of 3rd spraying showed the promising result.
Front line demonstration of Management of Fruit fly in Bottle gourd
Under this demonstration, population dynamics of fruit fly and use of
Pheromone Trap 25 trap/ha + Gur based bait trap: (50 ml malathion 200 g Gur + 2
lit Water. CCSHAU, 2014 used this approach for the management of Bactrocera
cucurbitae of bottle gourd at Laxmipur, Bilashapur, Kumarghat, Unakoti district
during 2021-22. Percent fruit damage by number at Pre-set damage, post-set
damage, and harvesting damage were calculated.

Effect of Yellow sticky trap, Botanical insecticides for Management of


Insect Pest in Mustard
Increase the yield potential of mustard by reducing the insect pest of mustard
through integrated pest management. ICAR-NOFRI, Sikkim, 2014 realsed this technology
includes Yellow & blue sticky trap @ 25/ha at seedling and flowering stage,
application of botanical insecticides like neem formulation @ 3 ml/l at different
stages. Trials were conducted at Bilashapur, Kaulikora, and East Kanchanbari,
Unakoti Tripura during 2021-22. Critical inputs such as Yellow & blue sticky traps,
knapsack sprayers, and neem formulations, were distributed to selected beneficiaries
of the Unakoti district.
Effect of Streptocycline and cupper oxychloride for management of bacterial wilt
of brinjal at Unakoti District

Wilting is a major concern for brinjal cultivation in the Unakoti district. In


search of effective disease management strategies, management of bacterial wilt of
brinjal was undertaken at Bilashapur and Kaulikora GP, Unakoti Tripura during 2021-
22. CHF Pasighat, 2012-13 developed and released trials that include: Seeds dipped in
Streptocycline @ 1 g/40 lit of water for 30 minutes, Drench bed with Copper
oxychloride@3 g/lit and spray cupper oxychloride @ 10 g/lit of water at 20, 35, 50,
65, and 80 days intervals against the existing Farmer practice. Critical inputs were
distributed to the selected farmers of the Unakoti District

Awareness programme on Insect pest and disease management at KVK Campus


Awareness programme was held on 17 July 2021 in which 25 nos of farmers
participated. During the programme, important pests and diseases might attack
crops and integrated management strategies and addressed queries raised by the
farmers. This is our first such awareness programme where present all SMS, Farm
managers and Lab. tech
