Assembly Instructions
1. Print pages 3-11 (color version) or 12-20 (black-and-white version).
2. Cut out the dessert dishes. Give one to each player.
3. Cut out the playing cards for the level you wish to play. (Level 1 students use
the Level 1 cards, Level 2 students can use the Level 1 or Level 2 cards, and so
on.) For best results, use only one level of cards per game.
How to Play
1. Deal three cards to each player. Place the remaining playing cards face down
in a draw pile on the table.
2. Have the first player select a playing card either from the draw pile or from
another player’s hand. If the ice cream scoop on the card matches one
already in the player’s hand, he may place the matching cards side by side in
his dessert dish. Have your student read the resulting compound word aloud.
The matching pair of cards is then placed in a pile in front of the player.
3. If the ice cream scoop does not match one in the player’s hand, the player
keeps the card in his hand and the game continues.
4. If the draw pile runs out, the game continues with the players selecting cards
from each other’s hands.
5. The game continues until all the ice cream scoop cards have been matched.
The player with the most matches wins.
