Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to bring the following announcements to your attention:

Carol Singing: Our school Christmas choir, coordinated by Ms. Amy McNamara, were invited to sing at
this year’s Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch on Sunday December 4. The boys and girls in attendance
helped create a very festive atmosphere for all in attendance.

Trip to Carrigoran House: Pupils from 1st to 6th class travelled to Carrigoran House on Friday December
9 and performed for the residents and staff. We were delighted to get the opportunity to perform for the
residents and helped bring some Christmas atmosphere to Carrigoran House.
Christmas Concerts: The Junior classes performed their Christmas plays on Friday December 16 for pupils
and parents at Kilkishen church. All in attendance were treated to two days of great entertainment and
drama. The Junior and Senior Infants performed their play “Our First Nativity”, with 1st and 2nd class
performing “Lights ,Camel Action” and 2nd and 3rd class performing “Santa’s Cookie Problem”. On Monday
December 19, senior classes entertained those in attendance to performances of Santa’s On Strike and
Bahhumbug the Musical. All Christmas plays are available to enjoy on our school website at

Winter Hurling and Camogie League Update: On Wednesday December 21, the School League Finals
Day took place. The Shield Final was contested by Wexford and Galway, while the Cup Final was between
Kilkenny and Dublin. After two great contests Wexford and Kilkenny were crowned Shield and Cup
winners. Congratulations to all 49 pupils and 8 teams from 4th, 5th and 6th classes that took part in the
league over the last 4 weeks. Other awards presented on the day included Players of the Matches: Tracey
Tuohy and Clodagh O’Hagan, Player of the Tournament: Ruairí Frost, Top Scorer: Darragh O’Donovan,
and Fair Play Award Winner and winning Cup captain Jane Hogan. Congratulations to all our players and
we look forward to another great season 2023.
Clare Haven Christmas Appeal: Thank you to those that supported this year’s Clare Haven Christmas
Appeal supported by our Parents Association Committee. Donations from Kilkishen N.S. were delivered to
needy families on Tuesday December 13 last.

Temporary Accommodation: A temporary accommodation for our Special Class has been installed
recently which will provide classroom space for our Special Class until our permanent building has been
constructed. The school is awaiting an upgrade in electrical supply to complete the installation and this will
be carried out shortly. The temporary accommodation is a state of the art facility equipped with activity
space, independent room, sensory room, changing room and staff meeting room. Our Special Class and staff
are looking forward to moving into our temporary accommodation in 2023.

Admin Fee: Having received a once-off cost of living grant from the Department of Education, the
administration fee of €40 per pupil and €100 per family is cancelled for the coming year.

Swimming Lessons Return in 2023: Pupils from 3rd to 6th classes will recommence swimming lessons at
Ennis Lesiureplex every Tuesday starting on January 10 for 7 sessions. Details to follow on returning to
school in January.
Sports Capital Grant 2022: We have received the welcome news that our application to extend our school
astro-turf has received formal approval from the Department of Sport and Tourism who administer Sports
Capital funding. Having received formal approval contracts to complete the work are due to be signed with
works to get under way early in 2023. We look forward to completing the 40m x 40m astro-turf extension
which will make the facility 60m x 40m once completed. Below is a drawing detailing the planned works
which will get underway in early 2023.

Best Wishes Ms. Kelly MacLean: On behalf of everyone at Kilkishen N.S.,I would like to wish Ms. Kelly
MacLean the very best wishes as she starts her maternity leave. Ms. Anna Corry will cover Ms. MacLean's
leave and we wish Ms. Anna Corry the very best in her new role. We hope she enjoys her time teaching at
Kilkishen N.S.

As we have reached the end of another school term, I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge all of the
staff in our school who have worked so diligently this term. The School Management and Kilkishen N.S.
staff wishes you all a very happy and healthy Christmas and New Year. Looking forward to an exciting
2023!
