Ê  Examine  development  and  undertake  a  comparative  
analysis  using  illustrations  from  the  global  south  
(Asia,  Africa  and  Latin  America)  by  examining  
trajectories  of  development/underdevelopment  in  
select  case  countries.    
Ê  examples  of  observed  development  dynamics  will  
be  juxtaposed  with  trajectories  of  development  in  
the  global  North  in  order  to  explicate  the  linkages  
(historical  and  contemporary)  and  their  continued  
influence  of  the  development  paths  in  the  global  
south

1.  Articulate  theoretical  explanations  for  the  causes  of  
underdevelopment,  including  theories:    modernization,  
dependency,  imperialism,  and  world  systems;  
2.  Distinguish  between  developmental  challenges  
common  to  all  countries  from  those  rooted  in  such  
specific  circumstances  as  history,  geography,  and  
demography;  
3.  Assess  the  utility  of  economic  policy  recommendations  
advanced  by  international  organizations  that  address  
issues  of  development;

political  institutions  in  meeting  developmental

increased  globalisation  and  transnational  actors  in
