SECTION - A

I. Read the following passage taken from My English Reader Pg no.107 carefully:

In 1854, the Englishmen were fighting a war. Sick and wounded English soldiers were
sent to a hospital in Turkey. Florence Nightingale went there with a group of women to
help them. The hospital was in a poor state. It did not have sufficient beds and many
soldiers were laid on blankets on the mud. It was dirty and smelly too.
Answer the following questions: (ATTEMPT ANY 4) (8 Marks)
a. When was the war fought? Who fought the war?
b. Pick out two Prepositions from the passage.
c. Where was the hospital located? Who came to help the soldiers?
d. What was the condition of the hospital?
e. “The hospital was in a poor state.” Pick out the subject and predicate from the
sentence.

II. Write a letter to your grandmother thanking her for the lovely present she sent on
your birthday. (in 25 to 30 words). Use the words given in the help box. (4 marks)
