When we were task to conduct an interview regarding what’s the local expert and
educators' knowledge about the First Mass that took place in the Philippines, we were thrilled
and exited to see how this documentary interview would go. We first constructed ten
questionnaires for our interview, the questions were all about the first mass, where it happens,
what is its impact on our lives and etc. The questions should be subjective so it would contain
the person own opinion and understanding about the matter, well at first, we had difficulties on
thinking what were the right questions to ask because our questions should be engaging and at
the same time, easy to answer, we spend about at least 3 days to finally come up with 10
subjective questions to help us to find out if the information of the people about the fist mass is
correct. The second thing that we need to do is to find a local expert, historian and a teacher to
answer our questions and help us in the documentary. One of the members of the group had a
cousin who's a teacher and we ask her if we could ask some questions about the first mass in
the Philippines and she gladly accepted it but things aren't going the way you wanted it to be;
Unfortunately, her schedule Is not inclined with ours, we can only interview her at 7 pm in the
evening and their house is pretty far and the fare to get there is expensive too so we need to
find another teacher to interview.
Obviously, we need to find another teacher to interview, we decided to interview a
teacher since it is much difficult to find local experts, so we tried looking one for 2 days and the
deadline is fast approaching and we only had 1 day to conduct the interview so we ask one of
our classmates for help and to help us find for a teacher that is available for that day and with
the help of his girlfriend, we found one. The teacher is working on MSAT Malvar, a school near
BSU Malvar so our group got there early at 9am because our classmate said that the teacher
would meet us at lunch break so we need to get ready and we also waited for our classmate
and his girlfriend because they were the one who would introduce us to the teacher, we waited
until 10:30 am for them to arrive and they immediately help us to get in to the school and
started to look for one specific teacher until the teacher message the girlfriend of my classmate
saying that she would arrive at 12 to 1 pm, our group decided to wait despite that we also had
practice for our role-plays in other subjects, we inform our other group mates that we cannot
attend to our respective practice because of the situation. We waited until 11:45 when the
teacher message us again saying that she's in the school ground and ready to meet us but we
need to wait because she’s eating so we waited for her, but then bad luck strikes again, the
teacher message us again and said that she is sorry because she can't do the interview because
her stomach is pretty upset and she can't move because of the pain. We were devastated at the
news because we needed to find someone to interview again and immediately but still even if
we never meet that teacher, we are still thankful for the time and her willingness to help us.
The girlfriend of our classmate said her apologies and sorry for letting us down but we
said its okay and we are very much thankful for the efforts and help she gave to us even if she
had exams the following day, she can use that day to review for the exam but she lends us
some time to help us so we are verry thankful for that. She said her goodbye to us but our
classmate stays and said that he will help us to find a new teacher to interview, his old school is
not that far away and said that he can talk to some of the teachers there to help us on our
documentary, and we said yes we will gladly go there for the interview so we split up our group
in 2 one is going to that school to ask some teachers and the other one to eat lunch since its
past 12 already and were all starving, those who came to the school already eaten lunch so they
volunteered to accompany our classmate to find and convince a teacher. We ate at the
tapsilogan near the BSU campus and we are really surprise on how the food is super
inexpensive like we had a burger steak for just 25 pesos and the restaurant had so many
costumers they even have second floor and space at the outside for some chairs and table
which shows how many their customers are. We ordered what we liked on the menu and eat,
we talked about conducting the interview the next day since we are having difficulties on
finding someone to interview since some of the teacher in the school that our classmate visit
said that they are unsure and scared to take the interview because they were afraid that their
answers are going to be wrong and it will affect their dignity as a teacher so while eating we are
constantly messaging our old professor and teacher asking if we could interview them but there
were no luck.
We finished our meal and still messaging our old teacher when our classmate message
us to come to the school because a teacher agreed on taking up the interview, we were so
happy because finally after all the difficulty on finding someone to interview, we finally had
someone to help us finish our documentary. We arrived at the San Isidro National High School
at 1:30 pm and we are asked to wait until school hours ended which is 2 pm so by the
remaining time, we fixed ourselves for the interview and we made sure to ready our questions
and the permit. When the school hours ended, we finally meet Ms. Diane S. Beunafe who's a
teacher at San Isidro National High School and a MAPEH teacher, we talked and explained how
the interview goes and we give her enough time to recall her knowledge about the first mass
and when she was done, we immediately start the interview.
The interview went by fast and steady and Ms. Beunafe answered all the question
smoothly although her knowledge about where is the place of the first mass took place is
wrong, she still answers the question with confident saying that it is what she recalls from their
lesson and her being wrong to that information doesn’t mean that she lost her dignity and
credibility as a teacher, it's just that some areas in our country are not updated to the current
information or the things that are being studied to be revised in our history. The purpose of the
documentary interview is to find out if local experts and educators knows or updated to the
current changes or if they are aware if some things in history is not accurate or just fraud and
our interview prove that there are maybe some educators and local experts that are not
updated to the current information and this is just a reminder why history needs to be studied
and examine, so the knowledge and information that we are going to pass to the next
generation is accurate and right.
