M18830 Main Display and Peripheral Testing Procedures

Related Equipment:

• M18830AXXX Main Display

Details:

The M18830AXXX Main Display has the capability to test itself and connected peripherals built
into the software. These tests will allow a technician to test Main Display and peripherals for
proper functionality and aid in troubleshooting. A Main Display peripheral is a component that
communicates to the PCN through the Main Display, such as a manager’s keypad or upper door
security.

Getting Started:

The testing procedures are started by installing the JP6 jumper on the back of the Main Display
while the unit is powered up. This jumper is at the top right-hand section of the board. Only the
Main Display with JP6 installed will enter test mode, Main Displays and components must be
tested individually. There are several different testing procedures that may be used.

If the visual test does not show proper data, the Main Display must be replaced. There are no field
serviceable parts on the Main Display. If the test is successful, the Main Display is functioning
normally. Backlights are software controlled and non-adjustable.

Keypad Testing:

The Main Display supports 4 keypad connections. The matrix below describes which keycode
should be shown on the Main Display when each row is tested. Keys are tested by pressing the
first-row upper left key, then the second-row second key, third-row third key and so on. On a
Manager’s Keypad those keys would be 1, 5, 9, Vol/Total. Proper results for each row indicate a
properly functioning keypad.

Note: Keycodes marked with * will also beep when pressed.

If the results are not correct the keypads should be tested one at a time with the others
disconnected until the problem component is found. Issues may occur due to a faulty membrane
keypad, a damaged cable, or a malfunctioning Main Display.
