A. Frangipani
Frangipani is a flowering plant that is usually used for medical ingredients, for
ceremonial facilities, and cosmetic ingredients (Budaya, Astiti, & Kriswiyanti, 2021).
This plant can thrive in all places and is easy to plant, for example by cuttings. The
frangipani flower was discovered by a French botanist named Charles Plumier. This
flower has a Latin name taken from the last name of its discoverer, namely Plumeria.
Frangipani comes from Central America, including Ecuador, Colombia, Cuba,
Venezuela, and Mexico (Puspita, 2017). Frangipani flowers are thought to have
entered Indonesia through the Portuguese and the Dutch. It’s also estimated that the
original Indonesian Frangipani has a white color with a yellow tint inside. Frangipani
has many types with different shapes, colors, and aromas such as Plumeria Alba,
Plumeria Obusta, Plumeria Pudica, and Plumeria Rubra. There is also Adenium
Obesum commonly called Japanese Frangipani (Chairunnisa, 2021).

B. Plumeria Alba
Plumeria alba grows slower than other types of Frangipanis. This type of Frangipani
only lives in a tropical climate. Plumeria alba trees have a taproot that branches in the
ground. The color is brownish. It serves to absorbs nutrients and water in the soil. The
roots can grow as deep as 1,5 to 2 meters. Plumeria alba stems are hard, round and
elongated. Quite a lot of branches. The height of the tree can reach 7 meters and the
width of the trunk is up to 3,5 meters.

The leaves are single leaves so it doesn’t have branching bones. Green and oval in
shape, also can grow 30 to 50 cm. Plumeria alba flowers grow thickly at the ends of
the branches. The color is white and yellow in the middle. It smells sweet and soft.
The pistil is short, blunt, and wide in shape (RimbaKita, n.d.).

This plant can reproduce using seeds, but this plant has a low ability to produce seeds
and fruit, so cuttings are usually used (Sanjaya, Kriswiyanti, & Darmadi, 2020). The
classifications of Plumeria alba:

Kingdom : Plantae (Plant)

Sub kingdom : Tracheobionta (Vascular plants)

Super division : Spermatophyta (Seed plants)

Division : Magnoliophyta (Flowering plants)

Class : Magnoliopsida (Dicotyledons)

Order : Gentianales

Family : Apocynaceae

Genus : Plumeria

Species : Plumeria alba

magnoliophyte because they have reproductive organs in
the form of flower.

C. Cultivating
Cultivating Frangipani is not difficult, this is what makes many people choose to
cultivate this plant because the habitat and climatic conditions needed by Frangipanis
are not difficult. Frangipani is cultivated for various needs, it’s used as an ingredient
in cosmetics, perfumes, soaps, and for several religious events.

To see business opportunities, S.W.O.T analysis is needed. S.W.O.T stands for

Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat. The strength of Frangipani cultivation
is the number of plant enthusiasts who want to have ornamental plants that are easy to
care for. In addition, the various types of Frangipanis can be used as the strength of
Frangipani cultivation. The weaknesses in Frangipani cultivation are that it requires
large capital and the risk of wilting so that it can no longer be sold.

The opportunity in cultivating Frangipani is that many people need ornamental

plants either because of need or because of trends. Opportunity in cultivating this
plant can also take the form of providing plant decoration services and flower
arrangements. A business certainly cannot be separated from several threats, such as
competition against similar business, ornamental plant diseases that cause plants to
die, as well as rapidly changing market trends.

In cultivating Frangipani, it takes some basic techniques. Starting from preparing

seeds (generative) or use cuttings (vegetative), then proceed with pruning and
removing the tree from its pot. Do this step carefully, so as not to break the main
stem. After that, do the root pruning until reduced by a quarter of the part. Next,
prepare the planting medium and move the tree into a pot. To keep Frangipani in good
condition, do plant care by placing the newly transferred Frangipani in a place
protected from direct sunlight and wind. This plant must be watered two times a day.
If the plant is strong enough, Frangipani can be placed in an outdoor yard that is
exposed to sunlight to speed up the growth process.

Based on the results of observations that have been made, Frangipani can grow
quite well if treated with the basic techniques above. It is true that if we put a
Frangipani that is strong enough under the sun, it will grow faster. When I put the
plant indoor, the leaves barely increased in width. The condition is different if it’s
placed outside.

D. Conclusion
Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that Frangipani is a plant that
is easy to cultivate. Frangipani also has various function for human life. The attraction
of this plant is in its flowers, so it called an ornamental plant. There are many types of
Frangipanis, one of which is observed in this report text is Plumeria Alba. Plumeria
Alba has the characteristic that it grows slower than other types of Frangipanis. The
basic technique of cultivating Frangipani is not too difficult, so many people choose
to grow it. Besides that, there are many advantages that can be taken and opportunities
that can be used. However, the cultivation of Frangipani also cannot be separated
from several weaknesses and threats.

From my observation, I found that Frangipani has a fairly easy planting process,
but be careful on its implementation. If we are too rough in the process of cuttings, the
main stem can be broken. I also found that the Frangipani leaves are quite thick and
slippery compared to the leaves of some common plants. When I regularly put it
under the sun, its growth looks faster. I keep my Frangipani healthy by do watering
twice a day and regularly clean the soil around the plant to keep it from pests.
Apparently, it shows a good result, my plant looks more alive and well-groomed.
