11. A rod of mass 1gm lies on smooth parallel rails which are connected by a charged
capacitor at the end. Uniform magnetic field of 4 T is perpendicular to the plane
of the rails everywhere. The initial velocity of rod is 0 . What is the velocity (in
m/s ) of rod in steady state? Take C = 10µF & initial voltage = 100 V. There is
no resistance anywhere.

12. When nuclear motion is considered, the Rydberg’s constant of Hydrogen atom (RH )
is different from the Rydberg’s constant for Bohr atom (R∞ ).

tension in string B (in newton) (g = 10 m/s2 )

14. A real cell of emf 20 V is connected across a resistor of resistance R. A voltmeter of


varying resistance (rv ) is connected across resistance to measure the potential drop
across the resistor. Variation of potential drop against rv is as shown in figure. Thus
value of R will be (in ohm)

15. A travelling microscope is used to measure the refractive index of a glass slab.
The microscope is focused on a spot on the table and the reading of microscope is
10.08 cm. Now the glass slab is put on the spot & microscope is raised to focus
on the apparent position of spot. The reading is 12.48 cm. Now the microscope is
raised further to focus on the top of the slab. The reading is 14.88 cm. If the least
count of scale is 0.01 cm, what is the % error in refractive index?

16. A rod of mass m and length L(= 50/3 m) is hinged in plank of same mass m. The
plank is kept at the corner of a smooth table and rod makes θ with the vertical.
The system is released from the θ = 0◦ . Find the velocity ( in m/s) of plank when
the rod makes the θ = 180◦ · (g = 10 m/s2 )

17. Assume that sun radiates like a black body with surface temperature at Ts = 6000 K
and earth absorbs radiations coming from sun only. Both earth and sun are consid-
ered as perfect sphere with distance between centre of earth and centre of sun to be
200 times the radius of sun. Find the temperature (in Kelvin) of surface of earth in
steady state (assume, radiations incident on earth to be almost parallel)

18. A homogeneous aluminium ball of radius r = 0.5 cm is suspended on a weightless


thread from an end of a homogeneous rod of mass M = 4.4 g. The rod is placed on
the edge of a container with water so that half of the ball is submerged in water when
the system is in equilibrium as shown. The densities ρal and ρw of aluminium and
water are 2.7 × 103 kg/m3 and 1 × 103 kg/m3 respectively. Determine the ratio y/x
of the parts of the rod to the brim, neglecting the surface tension on the boundaries
between the ball and water.
