Role: Application Development Senior Analyst

Span of Control - I was working as a Senior software engineer. I was responsible for maintaining
business continuity for the program and rights team for the largest media firm in the UK region. This
was done by maintaining various applications and financial reporting. Any development, issues,
changes, or releases in the applications were my responsibility. The span of control was high in this
case as I was the POC for the users as well as Business Analyst. I had good control over the resources
to make appropriate changes as per user and business requirements.

The span of influence - As any issues and changes needed high cross-functional and cross-team
interactions there was a high degree of interaction. Along with that some of my applications were
data sources for various other applications used by other teams in my project and hence interaction
with other teams was a critical part of my job. I interacted with internal as well as external
stakeholders like Oracle or Microsoft vendors to rectify any issues. A large number of stakeholders
meant a large span of influence.

The span of accountability - The span of accountability was high in this case. I was accountable for
any application-related issues and enhancements and ensure that the uptime is 24X7 as downtime
meant that the broadcasting of contents and catch-up contents would not be according to schedule.
Along with that the reports which were used by the top management of the client needed to be
available and populated with correct data and I was accountable for the same. This even prompted
us to do a lot of automation to ensure defect-free effective delivery.

The span of support - The span of support was high in this case. The support was given by the
management for me to deliver the same. This was a motivating factor for me to deliver the work
effectively.

It seemed like an effective design as our project was going on for more than 10 years and we were
constantly appreciated by the clients.
