Lab Exercise: RSTP Configuration

Topology

Tasks
1. Create the topology shown in the figure using eNSP.
2. Configure RSTP to each switch
3. Display the status of each port
A. Fill in the cost and role of each port
SWA
Port Cost Role
G0/1 20000 Root Port / Forwarding
G0/2 20000 Designated port / Forwarding

SWB
Port Cost Role
G0/1 20000 Designated Port / Forwarding
G0/2 20000 Designated Port / Forwarding
G0/3 20000 Designated Port / Forwarding

SWC
Port Cost Role
G0/1 20000 Alternate Port / Discarding
G0/2 20000 Designated Port / Forwarding
G0/3 20000 Root Port / Forwarding

SWD
Port Cost Role
G0/1 20000 Alternate Port / Discarding
G0/2 20000 Root Port / Forwarding
B. Draw the topology and provide the label corresponding to the role of each port

4. Set SWD as the root bridge manually by changing its priority

5. Display the status of each port
A. SWA

G0/3 20000 Designated Port / Forwarding

SWC
Port Cost Role
G0/1 20000 Designated Port / Forwarding
G0/2 20000 Root Port / Forwarding
G0/3 20000 Alternate Port / Discarding

SWD

G0/1 20000 Designated port / Forwarding
G0/2 20000 Designated port / Forwarding

B. Draw the topology and provide the label corresponding to the role of each port
C. Provide brief explanation as to why there is a change in the port role assignments.
Switch encounters a topology change whenever it detects link status change on one of its interfaces due to a link or another switch
failure.

The switch modifies its topology as a result of switch failure or data looping because, for instance, if there is a root bridge issue, the root
bridge will be elected in temporarily until the other port becomes active once again.
