Chronic Illness in Saudi Arabia

Introduction

Chronic disease is becoming more prevalent around the world, posing severe concerns to

many governments' capacity to enhance the well-being of their populations.  Over the last

few years, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia has seen substantial economic progress. According

(Herzallah et al., 2019), Saudi Arabia has seen a massive structural change in the prevalence

and causes of chronic illnesses, with the embrace of unhealthy life choices being a key

manifestation. The rise of chronic illnesses is providing problems to Saudi Arabia's existing

healthcare facilities. The shift in illness patterns has culminated in inadequate primary

medical care, particularly inadequate client follow-up measures and health awareness (Al

Asmri et al., 2020).

Chronic illness is a long-term health disturbances caused by a non - communicable illness

that requires individuals to adapt with and manage despite this interruption. In Saudi Arabia ,

common chronic diseases include diabetes, obesity, heart disease, asthma, and hypertension

(Al-Ghamdi et al., 2018).

Causes of chronic illness in Saudi Arabia

Chronic illness prevalence is being driven by a diverse combination of social, economic,

and personal variables.
