When we speak our mother tongue, we speak

naturally without realizing that our language directly

affects how we behave in society and how we can
learn additional languages or how we will change
our behavior when speaking a second, third o more
languages. We are unique human beings and even
speaking the same language there will differences
between people from the same country because
depending on our development as persons is how
our mother tongue will shape us and is even more
marked when people learn different languages at
the same time since childhood.

1
Firstly, the stereotypes are important portion of the
language that can modify it and that is why we need
to understand the stereotypes. Stereotypes can be
affected by beliefs. Shashkevich (2019) let us know
that "Stanford linguists and psychologists’ study how
language is interpreted by people. Even the
slightest differences in language use can
correspond with biased beliefs of the speakers,
according to research. “The stereotypes can be
sexist, and this definitely will modify and shape our
language

2
Secondly, we need to analyze how other languages
inform our own and for this Shashkevich (2019)
comments that, "People speak roughly 7,000
languages worldwide. Although there is a lot in
common among languages, each one is unique,
both in its structure and in the way it reflects the
culture of the people who speak it." Here we can
have an idea about the diversity we have around the
world when languages are the topic. Also, the
importance of study other languages is explained by
Shashkevich (2019) by quoting an expert, "Jurafsky
said it’s important to study languages other than our

3
own and how they develop over time because it can
help scholars understand what lies at the foundation
of humans’ unique way of communicating with one
another." In here we can read about how languages
will teach us the way of communicating with people
from around the world. Shashkevich (2019) close
this analysis by stating that language helps to
discover what it means to be human by also quoting
an expert, "“All this research can help us discover
what it means to be human,” Jurafsky said."

3
Finally, the analysis ended with language as a lens
into behavior, and for this Shashkevich (2019) first
let us know that speech patterns and behaviors are
related, "Linguists analyze how certain speech
patterns correspond to particular behaviors,
including how language can impact people’s buying
decisions or influence their social media use." In
here we also read about a second aspect which is
how language can impact people’s choices and
lastly Shashkevich (2019) talks about the
polarization of beliefs by stating that "“We live in a
very polarized time,” Jurafsky said. “Understanding

4
what different groups of people say and why is the
first step in determining how we can help bring
people together.”"

4
In conclusion, this article is very clear about how
languages modify people’s life in speaking, writing,
and reading by understanding the three aspects
covered: understanding stereotypes, how other
languages inform our own and language as a lens
into behavior, and how these languages shapes will
differ between people from different origins and
latitudes. Is important that we understand that we
live with other people in society because we are not
hermits, and the communication or
miscommunication is what lead into problems and is
not hard to avoid these problems by simply having a

5
more fluent communication.
