Ways of electricity production

Nuclear Power Plant Solar Power Plant Hydropower plant

It is a thermal power station in which
the heat source is the nuclear reactor.
A solar power plant uses sunlight to get Hydropower, also known as water power,
As it is typical of thermal power stations energy. As the sunlight is ample and
is the use of falling or fast running water
heat is used to generate renewable, one can use it to to produce electricity or to
steam that drives a steam power up the home and power machines. This is
turbine connected to a business premises. Solar archived by converting the
generator that produces powerplant will minimize gravitational potential

Electrical Energy

Harvesting in Jammu
& Kashmir

Hydro power generation in Kashmir has drastically

decreased to measly 408 megawatts due to less

precipitation thus making the union territory heavily

dependent on outside power supplies to meet the

demand.
Electricity in Kashmir
01 Statistics
According to the data accessed by the Greater Kashmir from power grid sources, as of November
20, J&K was importing 81 percent i.e. 1726 MW in Kashmir and 704 MW of power from outside

power companies. As per the officials, the restricted power demand in J&K is 2134 MW, of which

1430 MW in Kashmirand 704 MW in Jammu division.

02 Potential
J&K has vast hydro potential estimated at 20,000 MW out of which only

16,480 MW is identified till date mainly due to resource constraints.

Approximately 15 percent of total identified hydro power potential i.e.

2457.96 MW has been exploited so far and out of which the state sector

projects is only 760.46 MW.

Generation of Electricity
in Tamil Nadu

To satisfy the needs of the state, Tamil Nadu

Electricity Board has a total installed capacity of

10,214 MW which includes shares for the State

government, Central government and independent

power producers. The state also has installations of

renewable energy sources such as windfarms that

supply up to 4,300 MW.

2724.55 MW
sources and started to act accordingly. The following chart depicts the

amount of energy harvested from various means of renewable energy

sources and hence proves the above statement.

02 Status of Demand
Wind power The present status of demand of power in the state is around 14,500 MW to

8456.11 MW
15,500 MW. Tamil Nadu operates the most diversified electricity generation

portfolio in India. Tamil Nadu is a pioneer in renewable energy having an

installed capacity of 15,779 MW of renewable energy.
