Reflection paper
I chose two articles in METU online library today. My selection and decision process were a little
bit hard because the METU library's system is complicated. When I started searching for an
article on the METU library, I didn't know what I should write in the searching area. Because of
this situation, my searching process was prolonged. Then, I understood the system, but many
articles didn't open this time either. Maybe I couldn't do it. After long efforts, I found the two
items which I wanted. These articles are related to business. I chose this topic because I want to
learn more information about my department. I want to know more information about my
department because business administration has many sub-branches and I want to decide
which one I want to choose before it's too late. If I summarize my METU library experience, the
online library's system is hard to use, but there are a lot of sources in the METU library.
My first article's headline is "The effect of voluntary disclosures on stock returns". Summary of
the article is that this paper examines the stock returns reaction to the voluntary disclosures
made by non-financial firms listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange Market 100 Index. An event
study methodology was conducted to examine the effect of voluntary disclosures on stock
returns. The results show that voluntary disclosures affect stock returns. We also found that the
stock returns reaction is more vital, especially for the firms that 1) have less distributed capital
2) supply products with the low-level technology changing. It was published in "Journal of
Management and Economics" Volume: 20 Issue:2. ISSN: 1302-0064 / 2458-825
My second article's headline is "A Content analysis of articles published in Journal of the School
of Business Administration: Marketing and marketing research (1972-2007)". Summary of the
article is that the study examined the trends of marketing articles published in the Journal of
the School of Business Administration, Istanbul University using content analysis method. The
study's main objective was to identify marketing and marketing research articles published in
Journal of the School of Business Administration between years 1972-2007 and assess
publications' contents to determine the marketing trends. The trends and development in
marketing were documented with various content categories such as pricing, advertising,
product, the marketing concept, marketing education, decision-making process, consumer
behavior, industrial marketing, modeling, research methodology, international marketing,
services marketing, and retailing. The study's findings indicated that consumer behavior and
research methodology were the main categories of 65 marketing articles conducted during the
period. The results also showed that the number of marketing and marketing research articles
published in the journal decreased throughout the years. It was published in "Istanbul Business
Research" Volume:37 Issue:1. ISSN: 1303-1732
