Task Force Reminds the Impact of Long Holidays

during a Pandemic: From Increased Active Cases to
High Doctor Deaths

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Head of the Covid-19 Task

Force for Handling Doni Monardo warned that there
would be a number of negative impacts that would
occur if people's mobility was not restricted during long
holidays.

Doni warned that there is a potential for an increase in

active cases and a high number of doctor deaths due to
this condition.
"We have to admit that every long holiday starting from
Eid, until Christmas 2020 and the new year is always
followed by an increase in daily cases and active cases
of Covid-19," Doni said in a virtual press conference on
Monday (8/3/2021).

He gave an example, after a long holiday at Christmas

and the new year then entered January 2021.

Doni said, in the late January period, active cases of

Covid-19 in Indonesia ranked very high during the
pandemic.

"That was between the end of January and the

beginning of February, the peak or peak. Where there
was an average of 170,000 active cases per day," said
Doni.

As a result, the death rate also increased very high.

Based on government data, the number of deaths due to

Covid-19 in January was recorded at 7,860 people.

"After a long holiday followed by high active cases, then

the death rate is very high and the death rate for our
doctors is also high," said Doni.
"If we record here in January, our doctor's death rate
reached the highest, reaching 58 people," he continued.

As is known, this week there are two national holidays

which fall on Thursday (11/3/2021) and Sunday
(14/3/2021).

On March 11 is the commemoration of the Isra Miraj of

the Prophet Muhammad SAW while on March 14 is the
commemoration of the Nyepi Day of the Saka New Year
1943.

In this regard, Doni asked the leadership of every

government agency, state-owned enterprise and private
sector to supervise their respective employees so as not
to travel outside the region during March 11-14, 2021.

"During the upcoming holiday, which will be on March 11

and on March 14, the implementation will be the same
as the previous rules," Doni said in a virtual press
conference on Monday (8/3/2021) night.

The regulation refers to the prohibition of traveling

outside the city for ASN, TNI, Polri and BUMN
employees.

"So we hope that the leaders of the institutions,

especially the TNI, Polri, the Ministry of Home Affairs
and SOEs can really supervise their respective members,
employees and employees," said Doni.

Meanwhile, for the private sector, the Task Force admits

that it cannot provide a ban.

However, Doni said he had communicated with the

Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin)
so that he could convey an appeal for restrictions on
mobility during the long holiday this weekend.

"So that Kadin can help convey messages to all

company leaders. Because if everyone can comply with
maintaining mobility, then we can suppress daily
positive cases, active cases and the death toll," Doni
explained.
