 President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has officially
banned people from going home for Eid 2020. This
decision is in order to break the chain of spreading
the Corona virus or Covid-19.

 Ad Interim Minister of Transportation, Luhut

Binsar Panjaitan, said that this ban will start on
Friday, April 24, 2020 and will apply to residents in
Greater Jakarta and areas that have implemented
Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB).
 In a video conference after a limited meeting, Luhut with
President Jokowi has decided to ban going home during
Ramadan 1441 H and Eid al-Fitr for the Jabodetabek area and
areas subject to PSBB. The “Mudik” ban also applies to people
living in the red zone of the corona virus (Covid-19).

 Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Perry Warjiyo, said that the

Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) designed the
bad scenario due to the “Mudik” action carried out by Jakarta
residents to various regions. And if this happens, the Covid-19
outbreak will spread.
"This homecoming is usually used as ammunition for
economic growth, people's mobility will be followed by
growth in household consumption. But if going home is still
carried out, we are worried that the COVID-19 pandemic will
not end," said Enny in a discussion on the virtual homecoming
ban with a number of experts on Wednesday (22/22/2020)

"Organda supports this policy because they see the spread

of the corona virus is still high," said the General Chair of the
DKI Jakarta Province Land Transport Organization (Organda),
Shafruhan Sinungan. Jokowi's new travel ban. Especially the
impact on business actors and workers in the land public
transportation sector who are threatened with losing their
livelihoods.
The policy of prohibiting going home has the
potential to reduce the national economy.
Because the tradition of going home is a gold
field for the growth of public consumption. There
are losses especially in the economic sector.
The circulation of money during Lebaran
homecoming in Indonesia, which is estimated to
be in the trillions of rupiah every year, will be
constrained. That is a big loss. Weak economic
communities who depend on their income from
going home, such as drivers, are also affected.
Even it has made the domestic economy slump, this is the
way that the government must take to break the chain of the
spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. So instead of letting go of
homesickness, going home during the COVID-19 pandemic
can actually bring danger to yourself and your family, because
COVID-19 spreads very quickly.
The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the
transmission rate of COVID-19 reached 2.5. This means that
one positive patient can infect at least two healthy people. Not
to mention that the COVID-19 mutation has now produced a
new variant that is much faster and more contagious. When
going home, you are exposed to hundreds to thousands of
people during the trip. The number of people who are close to
you is certainly more if you use public transportation such as
trains, buses, ships, or airplanes.
