WHO Allows Indonesia to Lighten Health Protocols

4th October 2022 – The Minister of Health (Menkes), Budi Gunadi Sadikin, said that he was asked by
President Joko Widodo to consult with the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the status of
the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. According to him, WHO allowed if the Government of Indonesia
lightened a couple of health protocols.

Meanwhile, the status of the pandemic will be determined by WHO themselves. As there is a public
health emergency of international concern that must be officially revoked by them.

When asked about the time when people in Indonesia do not have to use masks in public spaces
anymore, Sadikin said that it depends on President Jokowi’s policy.

Previously while giving a speech at the Launching of the Inclusive Partnership Movement for the
Advancement of MSMEs at the SMESCO building, Jakarta on Monday (3/10), President Jokowi
mentioned that the status of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia might end very soon.

Even so, the President reminded us that the economic impact of the pandemic has yet to be known
when it will end. As he noted that the global economic recovery has yet to return to normal but
rather worsened.

As of Tuesday (4/10), The Government has extended the Community Activities Restrictions
Enforcement (PPKM) Level 1 for all areas in Indonesia. The new PPKM will be valid starting from
today until 7th November.

Despite the decreasing number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia as a whole, the Ministry of Home
Affairs still deemed the number of third vaccines or booster vaccines is still low at 2,7 percent. In
which, the Government urged the implementation of booster vaccines to be accelerated.

Until further information is given regarding the status of Covid-19 in Indonesia by the Government
or the Ministry of Health, people must still follow strict health protocols and continue to use the
PeduliLindungi app when entering public places.
