RATIONALE
Oregano contains chemicals that might help reduce
cough and spasms (WebMd, 2016). Oregano leaf is a
medicinal plant which is commonly known as used to
treat coughs and improves good health. It is not only used
to treat health conditions but also to add flavor to dishes.

As an herbal supplement, oregano is known for its

antiviral, anti- inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.
People have traditionally used oregano for respiratory
health. It is also a popular alternative remedy for cough
and flu symptoms (Healthline, 2020).
This oregano leaf can also be beneficial and
helpful to our current situation which is the
Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. It helps to
fight bacteria, have anti-cancer properties, and it
may help to reduce viral infection and decrease
inflammation.

In this study, it seeks to identify the properties of

oregano leaves that may help to prevent or cure
cough, which is one of the symptoms of coronavirus
disease.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to answer the following questions:

1.      Does oregano leaf relieves coughs?

2.      What are the properties of oregano leaves
that may be able to help relieve the cough?
3.      How effective are the oregano leaves in
improving the symptoms of COVID particularly
cough?
Statement of the Problem No.1

1. Does oregano leaf relieves

coughs?
Findings in SOP # 1

Based on the data gathered, there were

five (5) respondents from the residents of a
community who are using oregano as an
herbal supplement.
It was determined that all the respondents
answered “yes”, therefore, the oregano leaf
can relieve cough.
Conclusion in SOP #1
The health of the residents becomes
stronger and already relieved their coughs in
taking an oregano.
The advantage of the residents of a
community in using an oregano leaf,
instead of buying a capsule they can use an
oregano leaf as their medicinal plant and
they can possibly save money as well.
Statement of the Problem No. 2

2.What are the properties of

oregano leaves that may be able to
help relieve the symptoms of
COVID?
Finding in SOP #2
As a result, based on the articles provide more
information about oregano, the oregano leaf has a
powerful antimicrobial because it contains an
essential compound called “carvacrol” and
“thymol”. It also has antibacterial, antifungal, and
antiviral properties and it also contains potent
antioxidants, anti- inflammatory and analgesic.
Therefore, this oregano (origanum vulgare) can be
used as an alternative cough remedy because of its
properties itself.
Conclusion in SOP #2

Oregano leaf has a big impact on the

community and it will also be
beneficial for the residents because of
the properties that the oregano leaf has,
such as the antioxidant, antibacterial,
anti-inflammatory and antiviral.
Statement of the Problem No. 3

3. How effective are the oregano leaves in

improving the symptoms of COVID
particularly cough?
Findings in SOP #3
Based on the findings of the researchers, it
indicates that the majority of the properties most
effective is the antibacterial property. Within the
three (3) capsules or oreganos, all of them have an
antibacterial property. The pure oregano capsule
and oil, they also have an anti-inflammatory and
antiviral. The pure oregano capsule has all of these
properties.
Therefore, this oregano is effective in
improving and relieves cough by its antibacterial
property.
Conclusion of SOP #3

It is very effective as an alternative

cough remedy.
Oregano leaf has a big impact on the
community because it might be used as
an herbal supplement for them and it
loosened the phlegm and let it out from
the throat and felt relieved.
RECOMMENDATION
To the future researchers:

1.1.  Direct interview from the participants might be

encouraged in order to prepare, compress and associate the
information to be gathered and in order to answer the
research questions specifically on a medicinal topic on a
research topic might also have an experimentation to do as
well.

1.2.      Similar study must be conducted to a large group of

subjects to determine if the same finding will be found.
To the residents of a community:

2.1.  Oregano leaf can be used as an alternative cough

remedy.

2.2.  In using oregano leaf, the residents should always

consider what are the advantages and disadvantages of this
as an herbal supplement and also the properties it has.

3.3 The advantage of the residents of a community   in

using an oregano leaf, instead of buying a capsule they can
use an oregano leaf as their medicinal plant and they can
possibly save money as well.
