INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT WORD

I. OBJECTIVES:
1.To define word processing and explain what it can do;
2.To manipulate and familiarize the different parts of the MS Word windows;
3.To create, edit, and save a document; and
4.To demonstrate how to start and quit of Microsoft Word;

II. DISCUSSION:
Microsoft Word is a word processing software package. You can use it to type letters,
reports, and other documents. It gives you the ability to use computers to create, edit, store, and
print documents. These programs enable you to easily insert, delete, and move words,
sentences, and paragraphs without using an eraser. Word processing programs also offer a
number of features for improving the appearance of documents with different font types, sizes,
and styles. You can do all these manipulations on screen in WYSIWYG way before printing out
a copy of your document. WYSIWYG stands for what you see is what you get, meaning that the
screen displays documents exactly as they will look when they are printed.
Of all computer applications, word processing is the most common. To perform word
processing, you need a computer, a special program called a word processor, and a printer. A
word processor is an application software used to create, edit, save and print text file. Once the
file is created, the word processor is capable of making corrections easily, such as changing the
size of the fonts, margins, correcting the spelling, adding and deleting letters of words, and
relocating entire blocks.
Word processing have some advantages over hand-written or typewritten report when it comes
to creation and modification of documents. People become more efficient, creative, and
productive in dealing with paper works.

Advantages:

⮚It provides tools in making quality reports on presentations.

⮚It allows multiple productions of documents in hard and soft copies.

⮚Texts are automatically inserted.

⮚Documents are easy to access.

⮚Spellings of words are automatically checked.

⮚Graphics can be inserted.

⮚Copy of documents can be sent from one computer to another via networking and E-mail.
