GUIDELINES
Introduction to Capstone Project

The completion of Capstone project is a partial requirement for the completion of BBA Degree at
VIT Business School, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, TN India

During the third year, Winter semester (WS) (ie., VI semester) students shall register for the 10-
credit Capstone project using CAL registration link during the course registration period. Each
student shall undertake an individual, distinct and previously not done capstone project for a
period four months.

Through Capstone project, students are expected to fuse classroom learning, academic research,
community/ University needs and practices into a finished report and ready for personal viva-
voce. Capstone Project gives an opportunity for students to create innovative and unique
contributions to the field of Business and its interdisciplinary and/or trans disciplinary fields.

Students are instructed to follow the following important points related to the capstone
project.

I. Students are expected to select a project title in the functional area of their interest and in
the domain of their Guide-as agreed by the company. The project research should worth
16 weeks work. Students are advised to pursue projects in those areas that help them in
their higher studies/placements/ entrepreneurial career and time-relevant
II. Students need to pursue only company affiliated project as capstone project. In case of
students having backlogs and registered for the courses in Winter Semester 2022-23 can
go for an independent project as capstone project.

III. Independent project should be approved by the respective guide. Independent projects
should be based on Market Survey/Primary data; with exceptions of based on guides’
recommendation. Guides will be reviewing the work and will give better
recommendations as per the need. E dairy should be submitted by the students on a
weekly basis through mail to the guide.

a) During each review process, students need to submit the project-review-report to their
guides well in advance for his/her approval. Ensure that the project reports are free from
plagiarism.
b) The Guide will evaluate novelty, mode of presentation, fundamentals; and give his/her
comments and suggestions for improving the quality of the project.
IV. Formal dress code must be followed during the reviews.

Note: Guides can reject students in VTOP at any point of time-based on poor performance or
due to student’s inactiveness. So follow the guidance of the project guides and update the
progress periodically. Students should always stay in touch with the internal guides periodically
and communicate/update about the progress in the project work.

(i) Capstone Project Objectives:

a) Provide an Integrated learning opportunity and experience for students to collaborate with
business entities, Governmental bodies, Non-government Organizations, and other
community entities

b) Provide the students with an individualized learning experience in real-time scenario in


the area of his/her interest

c) Enhance the ability of the student to synthesis and culminate his/her research study as a
report; Thereby, enhancing his/her knowledge on theories and techniques, data collection
and analysis, research report writing and oral presentation

d) Provide an open forum for presenting their final project work. Thus aiming that the
student would gain self-confidence and comfort in making presentations at their future
workplace and in public.

(ii)Program Learning Objectives (PLO)

The Capstone project intent to achieve the following program learning objectives:

1) Identify unique ideas, products and solutions


2) Understand decision making
3) Examine global trends influencing the business environment
4) Associate with competitive strategies for the digital marketplaces
5) Learn about ethical values in achieving stakeholders’ welfare
6) Recognize business problems and describe alternative courses of action
7) Interpret and discuss results of qualitative and quantitative analysis
8) Summarize and express (oral and written) their views on decision
9) Relate to stakeholders and team members in a decision-making situation

(iii) Measurable

Professionalism in terms of:

a) Collaborative work with their supervisors/ Guides


b) Adherence to the timeline provided for the completion of the project.
c) Uniqueness, relevance, and innovation in conceptualizing and completing the
project theme, its sections and methodologies and workings to the satisfaction of
the guides & panel members
d) Professionally present the research work during viva-voce
e) Using technology positively for a wider reason to complete their project
f) Ability to develop, write and present research findings in APA format

Preparation of Report

The Capstone project coordinators would provide a format of the report to be followed by the
students. Care should be taken in preparing two copies of error free reports. One of the final
reports should have the original certificate issued by the organization / company and the other
report should include a photocopy of the same.

Evaluation of the Report

The report will be evaluated by the guide along with an External Examiner during the viva voce.
Students will be finally awarded grades. A minimum of 50% is necessary for a Pass.

Absentees and Failures

In case, if any student has done the project, but has failed to submit the report before the due date
or failed to get the minimum marks in the final evaluation, will be treated as “Not Completed.”.
