 Hard Disk:
A hardetic storage medium for a computer. Hard disk are flat circular plates made of aluminum
or glass and coated with a magnetic material. Hard disks for personal computers can store
terabytes (trillions of bytes) of information.
 Types of Hard Disk :
The two most common types of laptop and desktop storage devices are:
 Hard disk drives (HDD) and
 Solid-state drives (SSD).
 Solid State Drive:
An SSD is a type of storage device used in computers. This non-volatile storage media stores
data on solid-state flash memory.
 Differences between Hard Disk and SSD:
1. Reliability:
As mentioned at the beginning, both of the two kinds of drives cannot be immune from failure.
So actually their failing rates are very approximate. Do you know the solid state hybrid drive? It
is a mix of hard disk drive and solid state drive. Also, it has the improved reliability in that it
combines the advantages of the two.
2. Components:
It is known that the primary difference between hard disk drive and solid state drive must be the
imparity of their components. The hard disk drive contains the mechanical moving parts, which
will constantly spin up when reading or writing data. But solid state drive doesn’t have that. It is
totally made up electronically.
3. Price:
The last but not the least comparison must be their prices. As I mentioned in the 5th part, the
price of the solid state drive with low storage capacity, ranging from 32 GB to 240 GB, is
affordable. But if high-capacity solid state drives will be very expensive. So in light of price, by
contrast, hard disk drive will be a better choice.
4. Duality:
For duality, the solid state drive will win. Depending on the foresaid, solid state drive has no the
moving parts, which are vulnerable to malfunction. So unlike the hard disk drive, a solid state
drive can be exempt from the moving part damages. But although it is more durable, you should
still keep care of it.
5. Storage Capacity:
From the perspective of storage capacity, hard disk drive will be recommended. It is because that
you can procure a hard disk drive with large storage capacity only by little money. By

comparison, even though solid state drive can also offer large storage, but it is considerably
expensive above 240 GB.
6. Power-Efficiency:
If you’re choosing whether to use a solid state drive or hard disk drive in your PC, you may take
the power efficiency into consideration. As usual, the data storage device won’t make much
impact on the battery life on your PC. If you want to specify it, a solid state drive is more power-
efficient.
7. Speed:
Since that the solid state drive doesn’t need to spin in read/write operations, it has a better
performance than the standard hard disk drive in terms of speed, no matter the booting, loading
or transferring speed. But to be honest, for common computers, the speed of hard disk drive is
totally ample and appropriate.
Question:
Why SSD is faster than Conventional Hard Disk..?
Answer:
1. Overheating:
HDDs tend to compromise the performance when the system is overheating already. SSDs have
higher heating resistance which makes it a lot better compared to HDDs
2. Less Energy:
If you are to invest on a laptop, you want to make HDDs it works perfectly fine and surely
energy efficient. SSDs consume less energy than HDDs. It requires at most 4 watts, whereas
when more chips are employed, it consumes 18 watts.
3. Durable:
SSDs are more durable because they do not have moving parts. It can withstand some accidents
like shocks, drop, or vibrations.
4. Speed:
Obviously, newer technology has a far better advantage than the older, but there will always be a
downside. With SSDs, users experience a faster read-and-write speed. Unlike the older version
of storage like hard drives, SSD is built to last for business, gaming, and alike purposes.
An SSD can read and write sequential data at a speed of 550 and 520 Megabytes per second
respectively

5. weight:

Devices that have larger HDD are performing faster but it is heavier. SSD is a good choice
because it works faster considering it is lightweight. If you are looking for some portable, high-
performing laptop, you should consider those with SSD.
 SSD And Harddisk:
 Hard disk:
Hard disk, also called hard disk drive or hard drive, magnetic storage medium for a computer.
Hard disks are flat circular plates made of aluminum or glass and coated with a magnetic
material. Hard disks for personal computers can store terabytes (trillions of bytes) of
information.
 Solid State Drive:
SSDs got their name because they use solidstate devices under the hood. In an SSD, all data is
stored in integrated circuits. This difference from HDDs has a lot of implications, especially in
size and performance.
 Random Access Memory:
Random-access memory (RAM; /ræm/) is a form of computer memory that can be read and
changed in any order, typically used to store working data and machine code.[1][2] A random-
access memory device allows data items to be read or written in almost the same amount of time
irrespective of the physical location of data inside the memory, in contrast with other direct-
access data storage media (such as hard disks, CD-RWs, DVD-RWs and the older magnetic
tapes and drum memory), where the time required to read and write data items varies
significantly depending on their physical locations on the recording medium, due to mechanical
limitations such as media rotation speeds and arm movement.
 Read Only Memory:
Read-only memory (ROM) is a type of non-volatile memory used in computers and other
electronic devices. Data stored in ROM cannot be electronically modified after the manufacture
of the memory device. Read-only memory is useful for storing software that is rarely changed
during the life of the system, also known as firmware. Software applications (like video games)
for programmable devices can be distributed as plug-in cartridges containing ROM.
 Cache:
Cache primarily refers to a thing that is hidden or stored somewhere, or to the place where it is
hidden. It has recently taken on another common meaning, “short-term computer memory where
information is stored for easy retrieval.”
 Register :
A processor register (CPU register) is one of a small set of data holding places that are part of the
computer processor. A register may hold an instruction, a storage address, or any kind of data
(such as a bit sequence or individual characters). Some instructions specify registers as part of
the instruction.

 Internet :
The Internet, sometimes called simply "the Net," is a worldwide system of computer networks --
a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get
information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers).
 Intranet :
An intranet is a private network contained within an enterprise that is used to securely share
company information and computing resources among employees. An intranet can also be used
for working in groups and teleconferences. Intranets encourage communication within an
organization.
 Difference Between Internet And Intranet:
Connects different network of computers together. It is a part of Internet which is privately
owned by a particular firm.
o Accessibility:
Anyone can access the Internet. Accessible only by the organization members, having login
details.
o Visitors Traffic:
Internet is more and intranet is less.
o Safety:
Is not as safe as compared to Intranet on the other hand it is safe.
o No of Users:
Internet is unlimited and intranet is limited.
o Information Provided:
Unlimited, and can be viewed by everyone and limited, and circulates among the members of an
organization.
o Network Type:
Internet is public and intranet is private.
