made to accommodate for that schedule.

CAREER: PLAN B

Career Choice B: Prosecutor

Me and my choices: Being a prosecutor has always seemed interesting even though I

you? much time to enjoy life. I think that it could be a good option for me
because to me it seems very interesting but I’m not sure it’s worth the
sacrifice.

Career Info that I have discovered… The upsides to being a prosecutor would be that I still get to help
Consider: people by putting bad guys behind bars just from a court room instead
❏ Upsides/downsides of this of on the streets making the arrests. A prosecutor is in charge of
employment choice working with police officers, preparing criminal cases for trial,
❏ Job duties/ responsibilities ensuring criminals are punished fairly and lots of other things. The
❏ Salary range

❏ Future outlook
❏ Lifestyle factors experience on the job. In this job there unfortunately isn't that much
❏ Advancement opportunities room for growth. Once you get the job there aren’t many ways to
advance.

Consider:
❏ Skills required for position
❏ Personal attributes 2. Prosecutors need to present a case in court in front of people and
the judge so you need to be good at public speaking which I am.

3. My critical thinking skills would be a useful skill because it would

help when analyzing cases and preparing cases for trial.

Education needed to pursue my After high school I would need to get my Bachelor's degree, then pass
plan: the LSAT (Law School Admission Test), then complete law school
Consider: and pass the Bar which gives me the ability to legally practice law.
❏ Courses/training/ certificates Then I would need experience as a lawyer before I ever get hired as a
needed
prosecutor.

Write a one page reflection on whether your job will support your lifestyle.

● What sacrifices will you have to make?

● How will your priorities change?
● How much money do you plan to save per year? What will you use your savings for in five years? Ten
years? What are your savings goals?

I think that this job can support my lifestyle very well, what I have budgeted out above is on the year one salary
of a police officer. By year four I would be making $111,709 which is a considerable increase. Also as a police
officer there is a lot of opportunities to work overtime which is paid as double time. Some sacrifices i would
have to make would be time because to make more money I would be working overtime which obviously
means less time off and less time to myself. I think that once I start living on my own and working a full time
job my priorities would definitely change, at least I hope so or I’m not going to have any groceries. I think that
once I start having to buy all my own stuff I would be a little more money smart, not buying all the things I
want but rather the things I need. In my budget I have $8000 put into savings per year which is a little over
10%, but I think that I would probably try and save a little more. I eventually want to be able to own my own
house and to be able to provide for my family so I need to have the money to do that. In five years at least some
of my savings will most likely be going into paying off student loans. In ten years I will be 27, I want to have
my own house so my savings will be going towards that. My savings goal would probably be to be able to
provide financially for my family and to be able to live a comfortable life finacially.
