HYPOTHESIS
HYPOTHESIS

Hypothesis is a prediction of what might be the answer to your

research question/s and it typically focused on the relationship of
two different variables used in the study (Crossman 2019).

The hypothesis gives direction to the collection and interpretation of data

thus it should be well-grounded and written before the the said actions.

A research hypothesis (also called a scientific hypothesis) is a statement

about the expected outcome of a scientific study (for example, a dissertation
or thesis).
For a hypothesis to be a genuine research hypothesis, this statement needs
to have three attributes –
*specificity
*testability and;
*falsifiability.
A good research hypothesis needs to be very clear about what’s being assessed (who and
what is involved) and very specific about the expected outcome.

For example:

Hypothesis 1: A customer’s perception of a financial advisor’s expertise has a positive

relationship with their trust in said advisor.

A hypothesis must be testable to qualify as a scientific hypothesis. If it’s not testable, it’s not a
hypothesis. Testability means that you must be able to collect observable data in a scientifically
rigorous fashion to assess whether it supports the hypothesis or not.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Hypothesis 2: There are invisible, undetectable and unobservable forces all around us that
influence our likelihood to trust a financial advisor.

Hypothesis Essential #3: Falsifiability (Disprovability)

To be a useful hypothesis, it also needs to be falsifiable (disprovable). In
other words, there needs to be some identifiable way to test whether a
hypothesis is false.
Hypothesis 3: Life exists on planets other than Earth.
Characteristics
The characteristics of good hypothesis according to Baraceros in 2019 and process at all in 2001
-it can be tested - verifiable or falsifiable
- it is logical
- it is the directly related to the research problem
- hypothesis are not moral or ethical question
-it is neither too specific nor too general
-it is a prediction of consequences
-it sets the limits of the study
