1) Capstone Project Summary:

In the box below, please type out a 200 – 300 word summary highlighting the key points and
information that you plan to present during your Capstone Project presentation.

My capstone project covers the broad topic of skincare. When presenting this topic, I hope to further
extend my existing knowledge on skincare. My goal upon both presenting and completing this project is to
extend my audience’s knowledge on skincare and clear any judgements where individuals may think that
“good” skincare is high-end skincare (unaffordable products) or steer clear from any skincare products
that are advertised as skincare and beauty products that harm POC communities (ex: whitening products).
Moreover, I intend on covering aspects that aren’t quite spoken about when people think of skincare; we
often think “which brand works best for everyone?” or, “what’s best for my skin type?” Yet we don’t often
think about what kinds of companies we’re supporting (Are they sustainable/ecofriendly? Do they test on
animals?)  I may have to end up making various proposals to cover various areas of skincare, which is why I
plan on creating a Canva slide and bringing in various skincare samples for various skin types (if I manage
to budget well enough by the time I present). Overall, I hope to change (or teach!) the audience’s already
existing opinion on skincare, and how it can benefit both ourselves and the businesses we buy from.

I have already demonstrated this skill prior to starting my capstone
project, as I changed my topic and switched it to something else. Upon
doing this, I expressed that my original topic would have led me to
burnout and a rushed/badly done Capstone project. 
I use a variety of strategies to manage my personal well being     
I plan to demonstrate this in my capstone project as I know myself and
what my passions are. If I do end up experiencing burnout when working
on this Capstone, I plan on taking brief breaks and then set up brief time
periods where I can slowly ease myself into working on the project
again.

I am aware that for this project, I am working independently for the most
part. I am planning to (perhaps) collaborate with someone with a similar
capstone idea to mine, in order to show that I can work with others and

ethically in all my interactions, including online.  
I plan on creating a project where it includes products that are inclusive
to people of all colour. For us POC, it is especially a consistent struggle to
find sunscreen that does not leave an obvious white cast on the skin. I
intend on covering subjects like these, as well as finding skincare
businesses that are POC/women owned. 
I understand the purpose for my work and for my audience 
Upon creating this project, I am aware that my audience may be a mix of
people who already have knowledge of certain skincare products and
people who have no interest in it whatsoever. Therefore, I plan to cover
as much as I can (affordability, whether the product is friendly for
everyone or certain skin types, sustainability). 
I can assess my progress 
I intend on assessing and showing my progress within the
evidence/artifacts tab on my website. This will mainly consist of research
and personal observations I notice within certain products. 
I can create new and unique ideas that may provide new perspectives
that influence how people think about topics.  
I sense that my project may influence those who don’t have much
knowledge of using skincare to consistently use it daily. I want my
audience to know that skincare is for everyone, and not as a luxury.
There is good quality affordable skincare out there, for all skin types and
colours.  
I can persevere, and understand that all failure can be productive. 
Changing my topic last minute when I first started brainstorming for my
capstone demonstrates that even the smallest of failures can lead to a
good outcome. I’m aware that any failures I have when working on this
project could be turned into productivity. 
I can engage in deep and meaningful inquiry for a variety of purposes
and audiences. 
Although I won’t get to see others’ capstone projects, I have shown this
skill by listening and encouraging others’ capstone ideas (or the content
they have for it). Moreover, I intend on further showing this skill if we
have any presentations in the future. 
I can reflect on the processes of learning and share what I have learned. 
I have previously demonstrated this skill through tests, quizzes, and
reflections, and now intend on showing my learning process within this
capstone project (refer to last pt made on critical thinking). 
I understand what is important to me. 
 I know what my passions are, and what my values are. When I hit my
pre-teens, I was taught to take care of my appearance and maintain a
morning and nightly skincare routine. This has deeply impacted my
lifestyle, hence why I want to make my capstone project on something
that consumes a part of my daily life. 
I know my strengths make me unique 
I am aware that my perseverance will get me through most of this
assignment. Plus, I intend on implementing some source of creativity
when presenting this capstone project.
