Capstone Project Proposal

Name of student: Akintemi Temilola Date: 13th May, 2023

Teacher: Ms Browne Block: B

The Capstone strand I have chosen is Project Strand

Proposed title for my Project Proposal: (write the proposed title for your Capstone Project in one clear

sentence):

An easily accessible website showing lots of information on nail art, design and care

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you
cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

Will a website showing information and details about nail care and design increase the level of
interest people have in nails and therefore increase the number of people who practice it?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to
your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I started having an interest in nails over two years ago and have consistently updated my
knowledge on it and bought the necessary tools and equipment needed for it. I have always wanted
to help people understand my passion better and educate them on the right ways to care for their
nails, while also teaching them creative and fun designs. This is something I really enjoy doing in
my free time and it is my best hobby, so I know that doing a capstone on this will help me to further
my knowledge in this field, keep me interested and motivated to finish.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of

inquiry?

4
Since I was 17, I have acquired a huge range of information about nail art, design and care, even
though it has no relation to my future career but I have learnt everything from how to apply nail
polish correctly to how to use a rhinestone picker to how to pick the best care products for your
nails to how to create an interesting and artistic design to how to use the various nail tools e.g
dotter pen, nail art brushes, uv light/LED light, manicure tools and so on. All of these information
that I collected through the internet from experts and well known nail technicians, have given me
the courage to create a website where I share all this knowledge with others and advise them.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections
does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

I plan to become a biomedical scientist and this inquiry question doesn’t have much to do with my
planned career but it is a cherished hobby of mine that I would love to explore better and help
people understand it anyway i can. There are a lot of skills that I can learn from this capstone which
can be used to aid my future career like social skills ( By talking to people and doing their nail, I
have developed a skill that helps me work better with other people), creative skills ( By creating nail
designs and art, i have become very creative in my thinking and in the way i reason things)

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core
competencies will be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections. (Must
include reference to ALL 6 Core competencies).

your project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once completed. You
may use a combination of mediums.
o Electronic portfolio: Prezi or o Website
PPT o imovie presentation
o Physical portfolio o YouTube channel

My capstone project is making a website to teach people about all things nails, so my capstone
presentation medium will be in a website format. I will run through each of my five tabs and be as
detailed as possible.

Since I am making the website using WIX.com, I will have to log in and show my 5 tabs (which are
About Me, Nail tools, How to videos, My designs and tips on nail care) and my respective
templates.

My first tab revolving about me will be and the template i used was a few notes here and there and
then a couple of photos showing some nail designs that i did myself.

My second tab, which is about nail tools was arranged in zigzag template where i showed the
professional tools first and then i showed the DIY tools

My third tab, which focuses on videos on nail art that I conducted myself, was arranged in a simple
pattern where I would post a video and write some notes at the side.

My fourth tab, this is about uploading my recent designs. For this tab, I used a template where i
would post the picture of my design and write a note by the side explaining everything.

My fifth tab, which is about offering advice on nail care from various nail techs, I used a question

and answer type of template for this tab

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will
you research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end
of this project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.
My capstone project is all about informing people, it’s all about bringing people together to ask
specific questions about nails, to know where to start from as a beginner when it comes to nails, to
get inspiration from designs that i make myself and to figure out your own style when it comes to
doing your nails, it also gives you information about doing the basic things when it comes to nail
design e.g applying base and top coat, using a dotter tool or even applying nail polish properly.

This website consists of 5 tabs, which are:

About me: This is the first tab on the website and its only purpose is to give the readers basic
information about me and the site and why I am doing it. This is where I explain my intentions to
them and give them some confidence in me and the information that I relay to them. This tab is
very important because it gives background information about me and helps them to know me
better.

Nail tools (Pro and DIY): This is the second tab or section of my website. This tab is very important
because it is the natural starting point for anybody interested in nails, especially nail art. Nail tools
are really important and necessary because they are usually used to ensure a clean and
professional look on a nail design, they also allow you to explore your creativity with almost no
limits. In this tab, I have noted down some useful nail tools that I use frequently for almost all my
nail designs, I tell my readers how I use them, where I got them and what they can use if they do
not want to purchase them (i.e DIY or make at home tools), I give them tips on how to make their
designs better using the tools. Some of the tools I listed are liner brushes ( i.e brushes that are
usually used to make straight lines on nails), dotter pens (i.e pens used to make dots for designs
like clouds, flowers or rain drops) and fan brushes ( i.e brushes used to give a breezy look on
nails). I believe that this tab will be very useful to beginners or low on cash nail artists.

“How to” videos: This is the third tab of my website. Basically this tab is where I post my videos on
how to do things like paint your nails properly, apply top coat, when to apply top coat, apply base
coat and use a dotter pen. These are short and to the point while clearly communicating the
message to the reader. I edited and recorded everything myself to give people the confidence to be
able to do it themselves when they see it on the website.

My designs: This is my fourth tab, This is my most creative tab because it showcases all the nail
designs that I have been doing ever since i started two years ago. This is important because it can
offer some inspiration to beginners who do not know where to start from or people who want to try
a different type of design. I think it is important to show people that you are experienced and that
you know what you are talking about. To make this tab a bit funner, I added creative names to each
of the designs and some helpful tips to make the design easier.

Nail care tips: This is my last tab, this is the tab that I need the most help from, especially from my

4
mentors from the nail art community ( i.e the local nail salons). This is why I share the advice they
give me about the best nail products, the best nail art techniques, the simplest nail designs and
how you can improve on your nail art skills. This tab will offer more information and guidance to my
readers.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you
will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the
resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

Things that I am lacking in:

Resources Technology Skills

Nail brushes Phone stand good hand-eye

coordination skills

Press on nails Communication and

networking skills

Communication and
networking skills

How I improvised:

My Resources: Even though my website teaches my readers to create nail art without professional
tools, there were still a number of times that I needed to purchase some resources to elevate the
quality of my designs. I managed to improvise a lot of the things that I needed to do my designs but
the nail brushes were a priority for me, which is why I made sure to buy them.

Technology: I didn’t need have to worry much about technology because I had almost everything
that I needed to develop my video except for an adequate phone stand, but I was able to solve the
problem by getting someone to help me or using a pile of books to assist me when recording.

Skills: I will continue working on my hand-eye coordination and practice regularly, I plan to ask a
mentor on how to improve my communication skills, i will use different youtube videos to improve
and sharpen my drawing skills.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you

need to help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your
plan to access the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

Since my capstone is based on nails (i.e art, design and care), I have to approach someone with

4
some type of background and professional knowledge about nail care. Luckily enough, I can get
this help from local nail salons around me which feature nail technicians who have spent their lives
studying nail care and art. My plan is to visit 3 or 4 nail salons, ask them specific questions about
nails ( like what is the best way to take care of your nails? What are the best products to ensure
that your nails stay healthy? What is the easiest nail design that you can do at home or by
yourself?) and then compile all this information into my website in a Q/A type of format.

4
Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that
might affect progress with your Capstone Project?

A limitation that always affected my progress is time management. I have always had a problem
balancing things and staying ahead of them before it is too late. This problem caused a delay in my
process but thankfully I was able to overcome this obstacle by creating schedules, meeting up with
my teacher for advice and disciplining myself to stay away from distractions.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about your
project that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

I have no other considerations about my capstone project at this moment
