I think the most helpful in conducting research are relevance, exploration, review. First is
Relevance in research it is an extension up to which findings of the research can be applied to a real-life
situation. It is referred to as the interrelationship of one topic with another. In other words, relevancy in
research means that study which you are performing should be useful for others as well. Second is
exploration it involves familiarizing a researcher with a topic. Exploration satisfies the researcher's
curiosity and desire for improved understanding. Exploration tests the feasibility of undertaking a more
extensive study. Exploration helps develop the methods that will be used in a study. Lastly is a review A
review article, also called a literature review, is a survey of previously published research on a topic. It
should give an overview of current thinking on the theme and, unlike an original research article, won't
present new experimental results.

Based on the chart that you made, consider the questions that follow:

1. What do you think will be the consequences of those problems if not

resolved?
If issues are not resolved, the negative consequences can come up in the
form if inability to meet timelines, cost, and schedule. Moreover, it will
create disputes among the coworkers.

2. Who will benefit the most if the said problems will be resolved?
It allows the students to work at their own pace and make decisions
about the way they explore the problem.

3. As a student, how do you intend to solve such problems?

As a students I intend to solve the problems by ignore it, talk over
respectfully, agree together on a solution and ask for help if I can’t work
it out together

ANALYSIS: Think about it!

Based on the activity above, consider the questions that follow:

1. Are the answer/s to the questions that you posed researchable?

Yes.

2. In what way can these questions be answered?

By analyzing the questions to be answered by respondents.

3. How do the answers to these questions benefit you or the people living in your
community?
To volunteer and Help the people who do not understand the questions,

4. Do you think you were able to ask the right questions?

Yes.

5. How would you describe a good and a bad question?

A good questions is formed inn a clear, easily, understable language, without
any vagueness. And bad questions is a negative questions.

Good job! You have just constructed the research questions of your research! I guess you
are now ready for the more challenging phase of the research process – the review of related
literature! Cheer up and never give up!

LESSON 4
LITERATURE REVIEW
Objective:

At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:

 Create a review of related literature and studies as needed in the

conceptualization of the research study proposed.

Introduction

Literature reviews are designed to provide an overview of the sources you have explored
while researching on the topic that you chose. This helps you demonstrate to your readers how
your research fits within a larger field of study and why addressing it is important. Hence, as you
venture to the field of research, you should have a full grasp on how to develop the review. This
lesson will equip you with such skill.

ACTIVITY:
Review and Reflect!
For two minutes, study the existing gap of the research
title that you proposed. Then, answer the questions in
the analysis section.

ANALYSIS: Think about it!

Based on the activity above, consider the questions that follow:

1. Has it been an issue for a long time, or is it a newly discovered problem?

It is an issue for a long time.

2. What research has already been done concerning such a problem?

By organizing, and dealing and good answering to the questions.

3. Have any solutions been proposed? If yes, please specify. If no, why do
you think that is?
No, because if we conducting a research there are things that are many
problems so we can know.

4. What are the current debates about the problem, and what do you think is
missing from them?
The current debate about the problem facing the issues, and the causes.
They missing us by them did not learn, lack of self-care and also lack of
awareness.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Rationale
The Internet previously only used by workers in the field of computer technology and

Internet-based technology that's it. If look at the fact (Ceyhan, 2011), the author was promoted

to that the internet provides a wide selection, convenient opportunity, to enrich and develop

one's life. It is because the internet allows unlimited sharing of information and also provides a

way for an individual to cooperate and interact with computers worldwide irrespective of time
and place. A teacher has authority over the students because of his superiority in knowledge,

position or status and supremacy. Student-teacher relationships have lifelong effects on

student’s academic, professional and social growth. The students who have good, constructive

and helpful relations with their teachers are more successful in professional and social life than

those with rather differing relations (Adeyele & Yusuff, 2012).

There are many factors that affect this student-teacher relationship in today’s modern

and advanced world. One of these is the use of the internet. Today world is enjoying

developments in advanced technologies of communication. And once the lecture was delivered

it could not be accessed again. Modern techniques like e-learning, distance learning, and virtual

lectures etc. use internet resources as a source of information and means of communication

(Harb, 2011).However, the impact of the use of this medium is very large due to the rapid

development of information and communications technology (ICT) in all sectors since lately.

Therefore, the use of the internet will be a factor that will affect the academic

performance of students. However, if the use of the Internet is not controlled properly, it will

have a negative impact on students' academic performance. But, if the student can better

manage Internet usage, it will have a positive effect on the academic performance of students.

The role of the internet that allows access to the e-book, search information easily and assist

students in completing the task will be significant in increasing student academic achievement.

This is based on (Ward et al., 1996) academic performance or achievements are the results of

the study to see how far a student, teacher or institution has achieved their educational goals.
This indicates the impact of the Internet on the academic refers to how Internet resources and

services helped students improve learning, search information to complete their task and

other.

Research Objectives/Purpose of the Study

The main purpose of this study is to determine if the internet access significantly affect

to Student and Teacher’s Relationship on their Academic Engagement. Specifically, this study

aimed to determine the following objectives:

1. To determine the significance of student-teacher relationship and students’

academic engagement

2. To examine the impact of internet on student-teacher relationship and academic

performance.

3. To correlate the samples and recommend strategies for academic policies for

future use.

Research Questions

1. What is the impact of internet as a student?

2. What are the biggest problem students and teachers face when online learning?
Theoretical Framework

This study is anchored by Pelling and White (2009), which is tailored to enhance the learning

process. This happens in an education system between students and teachers, students and students,

students and schools that have a contact platform between all parties. In the education sector which is

primary focus of this paper, teachers can be able to adjust their teaching pace and teaching materials

for suiting their student’s needs. Students can equally offer to ensure that they may coordinate

with each other on different projects and assignments.

There are two theories has been used by (Asemah, Okpanachi & Edegoh, 2013) which

is, social information processing theory and the theory of equations media in order to find out

if social media exposure to students has an impact on their academic performance. The social

information processing theory developed by Joseph Waither in (1992) which highlighted the

information on-line. This theory suggests that the development of online interpersonal

relationships take the time to develop compared with face-to-face relationships, but if it is

developed it will be the same as face-to-face communication.

Lastly, the student’s learning experience towards the process of integrating knowledge

acquisition from the teachers and from peers appreciating that learning is a social process. The

relevance of this theory to the current topic of study can be attributed to its relationship,

success of an education system, media for provision of critical factors between the teacher

and student’s relationships.

Conceptual Framework
Presented on the figure below is the conceptual framework in which is contains the

dependent variable and the independent variable. In this study, the academic engagement is

the dependent variable that depends on the extent and quality of the student-teachers

relationship and the independent variable is the student-teachers relationship controlled by

the instrument to measure the academic engagement of the students.

Significance of the Study

This study will be able to help them to have reliable knowledge about the Impact of

Internet Access to Students and Teachers Relationship on their Academic Engagement. The

result of this study will be beneficial to the following personnel.

DepEd Officials. This could be their basis to facilitate the students assuming feelings of

safety and security in their learning environments and offering to scaffold for their critical and

academic skill.

Schools Administrators. This would help them to support students in learning

environment and have a potential of positively impacting the students social academic

outcomes which is the fundamental for the long-term trajectory of school.

Teachers. The teachers ultimately plays the role of a motivator to the parties involved

in the learning experience. This would help them to enhance their teaching through Internet

Access and build good relationship to student’s academic performances.

Students. This would inform them that the use of Internet Access will have limits to

preferred results of a positive relationship varying to set a learning experience approachable

and inviting more students to learn.

Other Researchers. This research would help them to understand well about this topic.

And also to motivate them to work harder in finding some information that can help them their

research to be successful.

Definition of Terms
Internet Access- is the ability of individuals and organization to connect to the internet

using computer terminals, computer and other devices.

ICT- Information and Communications Technology

Limitations and Delimitations of the Study

Students reporting more internet addiction found it harder to organize their

learning productively and were more anxious about their upcoming tests. Internet addiction

and problematic internet addiction and problematic internet use a lack of control over one’s

internet consumption can lead to a decrease in physical and psychological wellbeing. The study

recommends that as the internet is regarded as an inseparable part of human life, students

should conscious of using the internet. The students and teachers are assured their feelings of

safety and their security in their learning. To promote learning increase students motivation

and affected by several factors which is students learning skills, parental background , peer

influence, teachers quality and others.

Chapter II

Review of Related Literature

Teacher and Students Relationship

According to Roorda et al. (2011), in line with the attachment theory, a positive

teacher-student relationship facilitates the students assuming feelings of safety and security in

their learning environments and offering to scaffold for their critical social and academic skills.

Ideally, teachers who are involved in supporting their students in the learning environment

have a potential of positively impacting their social and academic outcomes which is

fundamental for the long-term trajectory of school and eventually their employment

opportunities. Additionally, Baker et al. (2008) argued that in an event where students form

positive bonds with learners, classrooms are perceived as having supportive spaces where

learners can actively engage each other academically and socially productive avenues.

In this context, the positive teacher-student relationships are characterized by the

presence of closeness, warmth, and positivity. To affirm this analogy, Cox and Williams (2008)

argued that students had a positive relationship with their teachers adopt them as a secure

base from which they leverage on exploring the classroom, school setting in both academically

and socially, to assume academic challenges, and operate on social emotional development.

This is inclusive of peer’s relationships, development of self-esteem and self-concept. Through

the already established secured relationship, learners learn about socially typical behaviors,

academic expectations, and the extent to which they achieve their overall aspirations.

There are many mixed views of different authors on ways that student-teacher

relationship impacts students’ academic engagements. According to Richmond et al., (1987)

good student teacher relationship does not guarantee students’ high achievements in

academics and society. Contrary to Richmond many studies as Adeyele & Yusuff, (2012), Finn

(2012) and Lessard et al. (2010) confirm that good and healthy student-teacher relationships
greatly part in improving the performance of students and their academic and social

outcomes.

Role of Internet in Student Teachers-Relationship

This is identified as the relationship that ultimately plays the role of a motivator to the

parties involved in the learning experience. The relationship is inclusive of incorporating

different techniques strategically designed for the sake of enabling teachers possessing

different personalities, varied teaching styles and those teaching in distinct fields for

developing human relationship skills that can guide in increasing the student’s efforts and

participation. To affirm this, Leithwood et al. (2010) noted that the teacher-student

relationship had been demonstrated as a critical influence on the entire school and behavioral

adjustment.

Additionally, Durlak et al. (2011) pointed out that the teacher-student relationship has

a direct association with the behavioral competence and better alignment in the schools. This

is inclusive of the teacher-student relationships having a direct relationship with unfavorable

outcomes which include negative school attitude, school avoidance, and hostile aggression.

Particularly, the teachers who are involved in the provision of emotional supports, more

warding competence and promoting self-esteem are perceived as being one of the factors that

decrease the vulnerability of the high-risk students in response to the stressful life events. In

the modern practice, Steinfield et al. (2008) argued that the internet represents one of the

primary sources of news and revolutionizing of the global operations. In this context, it forms a
prime learning tool for teaching the students on issues of history and linking it to the current

events.

Therefore, the internet plays a significant role in linking the learners and teachers in a

harmonious practice that offers mutual gain among the included stakeholders. In a different

research by Steinfield et al. (2008), the findings noted that teachers have believe that internet

user practices and content creation habits of teachers and students to be extensively distinct.

Generally, the preferred results of a positive relationship are varying to set a learning

experience approachable and inviting the students to learn. A teacher and a student

possessing good communications, respect in the classroom and showing interests in teaching

from a point of view of the teacher and learning from the student tend to establish a positive

relationship in their classrooms (Vescio et al., 2008; Jennings & Greenberg, 2009).

Role of Internet in Students Academic Performance

Students being distracted by the internet and technical lives, in what way will this influence

their education? It is noted that even the students who do graduate from school, many of them

do not have the aptitudes to guide them for the future and so forth. The role of the internet that

allows access to different sites, search information easily and assist students in completing the

task will be significant in increasing student academic achievement. This is based on (Ward et al.,

1996) academic performance or achievements are the results of the study to see how far a

student, teacher or institution has achieved their educational goals. This indicates the impact of

the Internet on the academic refers to how Internet resources and services helped students

improve learning, search information to complete their task and other.

Further, it enables students to make more minor inquiries that they may not generally feel

persuaded to visit an educator face to face amid available time to ask. It additionally enables students

to deal with their own particular security settings, and regularly work with the security settings they

have effectively settled as enrolled clients. Students have the capacity to voice their contemplations in

also, outside of the classroom. It enables students to gather their contemplations and eloquent them in

composing before focusing on their appearance. Further, the level of familiarity of different sites

likewise help students in self-articulation and support more incessant student and teacher.

Nalwa and Anand (2003) noted that regular users of internet end up in setting back their duties

which consequently results in poor performance in schools. In a similar vein, Karpinski (2009) called

attention to that web-based social networking clients dedicated lesser time to their investigations in

contrast with nonusers did and along these lines. Most of the students adopted digital media as a place

for those seeking information materials, as the main source of current issues as well as a platform for

sharing information with partners such as through social networking sites. Therefore, the use of the

internet makes it easier for students to obtain the desired information easily and quickly. This facility

will make students more motivated to search for information more often. Therefore, the use of the

internet will be a factor that will affect the academic performance of students.
