CHAPTER V

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

In the last chapter, the research presents the conclusion and the suggestion

conducting the study. The research provides a highlight about the process of

composing descriptive essays for all the points that have been discussed in the

previous chapters before moving to the conclusion and giving some

recommendations to the students to produce good essays.

5.1 Conclusion

Using the questionnaire proposed by Petric and Czarl (2003), the

writer analysed the three steps of composing descriptive essays conducted by the

students of the academic year of 2020/ 2021 who were taking Writing B course.

The steps are (1) 'before writing in English', (2) 'when writing in English ', and

'when revising in English ' the essay process. Looking at the overall average from

each step or process, it can be concluded that the participants have done well in

each step. Furthermore, each process produces some interesting facts.

In the first step, the participants spent their ample time to make outlines

and used Bahasa Indonesia (L1) to allow language transfer into the target

language. Nevertheless, it might cause language interference in their writing

products. In the second step, they made some pauses to read their compositions to

check if the idea was consistently written. When they were writing their

compositions, they often had grammatical and vocabulary problems to convey

40
their thoughts or ideas in English expressions. When they experienced this kind of

situation, they preferred to look up the problematic words or expressions in their

dictionary or asked their friends if they knew the answers. In the final stage, the

participants were not really motivated to make any revisions before they

submitted their tasks. However, if they decided to make any changes, sentence

structures would be the area they focused more. In addition, they valued the

teacher feedback as a crucial component for their writing improvement.

5.2 Suggestions

At the end, the researcher comes up with the suggestions to the EFL

students learning how to write well, the teaching of writing and other the studies

of the researchers who are interested in composing process in writing descriptive

essays.

teachers should provide good explanation on the stages of writing process in

writing descriptive essays to their students.

improvement, like the writer adopted the questionnaire with out try out. The

41
writer would like to recommend for the next studies of the researcher who are

interested in this study on composing process in writing essays and recommended

as two following the points :

1. Any questionnaire obtained from previous studies should be tried out

to make sure its validity and reliability on spesific kinds of participants

to yield more accurate data. The questionnaire used in this study was

fully adopted and was not tried out yet.

2. The next reseachers can examine the students’ skills in the composing

process of other types essays, such as narrative, procedural,
